About a week ago, my wife and I walked in here so I could get an offer on a 61gm 14K gold cuban link chain I wanted to sell. Originally I purchased it at Lamonica jewelry in Oakdale-- a very reputable jeweler that has been around quite a while. Starlite was the 2nd place I went for offers. Knowing the daily price of gold, the weight of my chain and the gold spot price, I had a reasonable number I wanted for the chain and wouldve sold to the first person who agreed. When I walked in, I saw two guys, kindly informed them I was looking to get an offer on my gold chain and began to take it out of the jewelry box. I didnt even have a chance to lay it out before being barked at likely by the owner saying "THATS NOT GOLD!" I chuckled, assuming he was joking since it wasnt barely even out of the box yet- and stated it most definitely was gold. This guy didnt even see it for a second, didnt look at it, weigh it nor feel it before seriously claiming it wasnt gold. I asked him what made him think that if he hadnt even done anything to it- assuming the only factor could've been the color? He said yes. I informed him i had worn it for over a year and it hadnt been cleaned nor polished. He then asked if I would agree to scratch test it. Which i agreed to as long as it was done within my sight. He THEN began to look at it, weight it, check for the 14K stamp, etc., never having done the scratch test and then within a minute or 2 offered me literally half of my first offer, justifying his offer by claiming they scrap it, and their labor costs factor in (đ¤Ł). First off, dont ever, claim something isnt what its presented to be without doing your own due diligence. Thats terrible business, and makes you look like an arrogant fool, nonetheless. Secondly, you were 100% trying to rip me off and acquire the jewelry at an extremely cheap price-- had you not thought it was gold, you wouldnt have even made an offer. I did proceed to sell it to Marinelli jewelers for my asking price, after they did all of the testing including a scratch test after agreeing to my price. I told them about this story and we all had...
Read moreI had a terrible experience at this place I took in my necklace to get fixed and he charged me 46 dollars because I paid with card and okay thatâs fine not complaining about the price even tho it was gonna be 20 dollars somewhere else but I was already there and wanted it fixed and I go pick it up and I he had it to me in a bag and not even 3 hours after I picked it up it snapped on me so I couldnât take it the next day cause it was closed so I took it Monday and they said they couldnât fix it for me I had to pay again 45 but I was clearly upset and they offered me a 10 dollar discount but thatâs ridiculous he said that my necklace was a screw one type and was just gonna keep breaking cause itâs loose so why would you tell me all that because I got it fixed for it to break the same day . Highly donât recommend this place if I could give 0 stars I would and Iâm not one to complain like this but...
