I signed up for 3 months of personal training in December. I went to cancel after my three months, and then they said I had to give 30 days notice. When I signed up with Anthony McLaurin, he did not explain the process for cancelling the personal training and he did not print/email me the contract. I got a copy of the contract when I cancelled, which says that 7 days notice is required to cancel but I spoke with Gil who says their policy is 30 days. I was told by Gil that I could have had my contract printed at any time, so it was my responsibility for knowing when to cancel and that technically they could charge me for another 8 months per the contact, so I was fortunate to get it out of it now. They were also unable to provide a refund (they said I had to ask to cancel within 3 days of signing the contract, though my contract does not include a date). The trainer I was seeing left Elevate- another trainer was offered to me, but I'm refocusing my training efforts and really liked the trainer I was seeing, plus $230 is very expensive so this isn't much of a consolation for me.
Morale of the story- MAKE SURE YOUR CONTRACT IS PRINTED!! Check it for errors (there were a number in mine) and know the timeline for cancelling.
They also have a quite a few dysfunctional and sub-par cardio machines. On busy mornings, it can be hard to get a functional treadmill. Most of the Precor Ellipticals have buttons that are wearing off and I used one who's audio didn't work well (just the base came through). The lockers in the locker room aren't frequently cleaned, either.
I do like the option of the pool. Elevate is still cheaper than the Y and Pacific's pool has been closed for months, so there's not many pool options in the...
Read moreThe gym has the correct equipment but there are issues in the weight room which is separate from the main workout areas.
The air conditioning has not worked in months. All summer the humidity level has been unacceptably high. On warm or rainy days the floor and machines have a moisture film which makes it difficult to get a good footing without worry of slipping. The A/C used to work.
I've brought this issue up to the gym personnel several times and they were unaware of it. The gym did have their maintenance guy clean the A/C coils and replace the filter but I saw that the air supply duct was full of water. What they really need is to have a qualified A/C tech troubleshoot the outside air handling unit (refrigerant charge, system pressures and integrity, superheat and condensate drain).
The second issue if the free weight flat bench. The bar rack position is too high. The old benches were great but they were replaced years ago with the current ones which are difficult to rack a bar even with a spotter for us individuals that are of...
Read moreThe gym itself is great and offers equipment for any style workout. I purchased personal training three times a week. I strongly advise against using their trainers. My trainer stated he likes his older clients because they are easy and he doesn't have to do much with them. He spends most of the session in personal competitions with other trainers or socializing with others taking the "Personal" out of the personal trainer. Instead of talking he lacked commitment to push me or drive for results, at bare minimum he could have corrected my form which had been incorrect, however he didn't notice due to his own distractions. My sessions were abruptly ended 5-10 minutes early on 30 minute training, and up to 15 minutes early on hour long training days. I do not understand what I'm paying for when this isn't personal and hardly training.
My apologies I didn't relized there were a lot of "May's" with personal trainers. To make it easier is there a number I can reach you...
