The Altamont Fair is a summer tradition for most locals. If born in the Tri-Cities, it's greater burbs, and the rural areas chances are "The Fair" is summer right of passage. It's been around a long time but it seems there is alot of work to be done to improve some things. Parking yet again this year was a nightmare. I know the wet rainy weather again has plagued the parking lots and access to the fairgrounds.
This challenge is nothing new it's been a problem for many years. Parking at the high school and running too few busses on the same congested roads made for unpleasant experiences for many people unfortunately. If getting to the fair and just parking your vehicle is going to take over an hour people will skip this fair and go elsewhere unfortunately. Dreamland Amusements is a great addition. Ride and game selections are good, rides are in nice looking condition, and carnival staff very pleasant. The fairgrounds are quite large so there is room to grow in the future.
The loss of the grandstand back in the 1990s was a major hit and quite surprising after all these years they never replaced it. Most of the fairs really take advantage of their grandstands to host major events during their fair schedule and throughout the year. All in all the fair is a summer tradition for many in the region, hopefully parking and access challenges can be worked out in order to keep this great summer tradition well attended for...
Read moreFor locals it's a great social event. If you live within 10 miles of the fair you're basically guaranteed to see people you know, which depending on the people you see could be a nice bonus. The fair itself has something for everyone, ranging from rides, museums, animals, carnival games, loads of food vendors, play structures, live shows, and more. The fair is also relatively clean for being placed in a grass field. Now the parking situation at the fair can be a nightmare, especially towards the night in which it took us 75 MINUTES to enter the parking lot when we were within a mile of the park. It then took an additional 15-20 minutes to enter the fair which really cut into our time at the fair. Also the weekends at the fair are jam packed, so try to go on a weekday about 1-2hrs before minimal crowds. With that said, the Friday/Saturday night fair energy is hard to beat. The safety here is also a concern, with numerous fights occurring over the week, and the rides themselves being semi-sketchy. Also the general crowd consists mainly of teenagers, so if you don't care for them go early on in the day. Overall it's a decent fair with some decent rides and a lot of stuff to do in general, but I only plan on returning primarily just to be around people I know, not for what the fair...
Read moreI went here for the garden Bros nuclear circus... It was atrocious. Firstly, they had misleading advertising on tickets that I received. In huge letters, It says free ticket. Below that , if you whip out your trusty microscope you can see the fine Print that says "$12 value admit one, child 3-13 with paid adult"... If the font was a bit bigger and it was written in English, I probably would have gotten the message that I had to pay an entry fee.
There were tons of people there on site scratching their heads. All thinking the same thing that I was... This is clearly false advertising and should be investigated.
Then they told me that it was $60 in cash for an adult. So I went to give them a credit card and they told me that the total was $70... So they were charging $10 to use a credit card...
Ridiculous. Needless to say, I left the place. A friend of mine went in and said it was really dirty and it was mucky all throughout the place... That you basically needed mud boots to navigate yourself around the dirty event.
He also tried to bring in a bottle of water... Which was also forbidden. He said it was hot as hell in the tent and he had no water... Almost passed out... You can buy water there for like 12$ a bottle though if you feel like you may pass out. So...
