I never write reviews, but I thought this time one is needed. The place is a local business, and I like to support local businesses. I have purchased a few hundred dollars worth of jewelry/repairs from them over the years. I do realize that they charge more for their merchandise there, but again, local, plus no shipping... About a year ago I brought a bracelet to be fixed - the string popped on it, and it needed to be restrung. All parts were in order, none missing. I received a phone call a few days later, stating that I gave them only a part of the toggle clasp. I know for a fact that no parts were missing at the time that I left it there, since I laid it out - the beads and the clasp - just the way I wanted it to be restrung. They told me that I will get a new toggle clasp. Next week I came to pick it up the bill was $20 plus tax!!! - for restringing large bead bracelet - and they didn't charge me for the new clasp! Well, considering that the original was large silver one, and the replacement was a small chrome one, I guess I should have been grateful. However, the toggle would come apart every time I put it on, so I came back. The owner was very unhappy by then - the audacity of a customer not being completely satisfied in this situation! - and told me that in this case he will replace is with a 'lobster claw' clasp. Again, I agreed. When it was ready, I picked it up, only to find out I can't manipulate the clasp with my own hand because the clasp is too small/cheap, and the size of it made the bracelet tighter. I decided not to pursue the issue, and just didn't wear the bracelet all this time. Well, a year later one of my rings had a loose stone, so I went back. I know. It took them 2 months to find the stone and to install it. Ok. I came to pick it up - the setting is ruined, the stone is in, however. Good. So I asked about the bracelet - would they consider replacing the clasp. Sure, he said, bring it in. I know by now I should have just gone to a different store, but, hey - local, small, near by, etc.. So, I brought it in. The owner informed me that since none of his solutions worked for me, he doesn't really know what else he can do. I suggested that a different toggle might work, to which he responded that they are all the same. Well, clearly not. And then he, after looking at the lobster claw clasp which he installed, as I was telling him that it doesn't open easily (cheap tiny assembly), he declared that 'in his 38 years of tending to highly satisfied customers, he never heard of such a thing', and that he 'couldn't do anything about my motor dexterity', as he giggled. Oh, yeah. I had my nine year old son with me, so the act of bringing the man back into consciousness had to be postponed. Hence this review. NEVER again!!! PS: The only reason for one star is that there is no option for 0 or negative(( Oh, and when we got into the car, my son asked me:"Mommy, is he...
Read moreI needed to get a battery replaced in my Movado Museum watch. I called up to see if they did watch battery replacement. The owner picked up the phone and responded by saying, "For only $9.50 we replace the battery, and we wont break your watch!" I should have known from his comment that I should go elsewhere, but at the time the comment didn't strike me as odd. When I went to the location, it looked like I walked into a pawn shop. Again, at this point I should have turned around but instead I pressed forward. I handed him my watch. He proceeded to, with great difficulty, attempt to open the watch with a pocket knife. After several attempts, and many scratches, he in fact did open it up. He did, in fact, replace the battery. And it was only $9.50. I should have done some more research and taken my expensive watch somewhere more reliable. If you need a battery replaced on a watch that is inexpensive, this is the place to go. If you need something of quality performed, go elsewhere. I'm giving two stars because he did replace my battery -- I guess that's...
Read moreSince their move from Erie Blvd and East Genesee, the owner has set up shop on his own property. All I have to say is that every eyeglass place in town sends their fine welding work out to him. He is a gentleman and a gracious host. I will never use anyone else. Three year update: the owner is still one the most experienced and knowledgeable guys in the jewelry business. He took the time to look at a couple of items I had. Very quickly sorted out the good from the bad and gave me a lesson in gold weight conversion to dollars. He was very gracious even though he had more pressing issues to deal with. I will continue to keep him at the...
