Warning, this is a long and convoluted review: My son just turned 6 years old and loves the movie âthe jungle bookâ. Because of a work emergency I had to cancel a plan with him and travel to NYC from my home near Oneonta. I promised him when I came back I would bring him a jungle book toy. I planned to buy a jungle book toy at the Disney Store (online it appeared as though they had a selection at the store), but they only had one stuffed Baloo and I thought I could do better.
So I went to FAO Schwartz supposedly New York Cityâs largest toy store. There was nothing remotely satisfactory there.
So then I went to the âcollectibleâs districtâ in Forest Hills, Queens. I went to a few places and there was nothing there jungle book related, even though they are generally cool stores.
Then I went to what was referred to me as a âtoy districtâ in New Rochelle. This was just three or four shops in a row with a lot of cheap stuff, including a lot of cheap toys, but nothing jungle book related.
I then proceeded to go to a series of collectibles stores throughout Westchester, Rockland, and Orange Counties. Indeed this quest to find a jungle book toy was driving me mad, I probably called about 30 places also, I only went to the places where there was âa chanceâ.
As I drove back home, I called every toy and/or collectible store in the series of towns and small cities leading up route 17.
Finally, I called Jitterbug Sights and Sounds in Livingston Manor, which had already been closed for 15 minutes.
The extremely charming and polite proprietor didnât have on brand jungle book toys, exactly. But it sounded like they had the most promising stuff so far, so why not give one last store a try?
They stayed open an additional half an hour for me and I got a non-Disney jungle book puzzle, which looks very classy. It is above my sonâs age rate as far as difficulty, but he loves it and it completely did the trick. I also got a jungle animals magnet blocks set which he also loves and likewise did the trick.
They then proceeded to sell me a fantastic angular postpunk vinyl from a ânewâ band from Leeds. They also threw in a few free singles to boot.
So thatâs my long and convoluted review of Jitterbug Sights and Sounds. Thanks for bailing me out, after my seemingly fruitless saga I ended up coming back a hero anyway.
In conclusion, go here and buy stuff, they only have...
Read moreJitterbug serves as a vital part of the Livingston Manor and Sullivan county community. When my husband and I first moved here in 2021, around the time the shop first opened its doors, Brad and Miriam helped welcome us with open-arms. Soon, they were inviting us to board game events, suggesting the latest collaborative games (remembering I'm not very competitive), and making us feel like we were right at "home," in no time. This is a special place - run by incredible people - who continue to show us so much kindness and generosity.
Run, don't walk, to check them out! Buy some awesome toys you may not see anywhere else; let them suggest one of their hundreds of games they are so knowledgeable about; pick-up some art supplies for yourself or a loved one with a creative spirit; listen to some vinyl and grab some great selections, both old and new; and be sure to say "hi" to Brad and Miriam. No doubt you too will instantly fall in love with the store AND this amazingly charming small...
Read moreThis is a cute store with a lot of nice toys and art supplies, which is why itâs a shame I recommend you donât go here.
Iâve purchased from them multiple times before, but I wonât be spending money here again. Today, I was browsing with my friend and her daughter, who had requested a toy at dollar general up the street earlier that day. When my friend stated âIâm just going to go up to dollar generalâ and went to leave the store the employee (or owner?) behind the cash wrap aggressively shouted at her âenjoy the corporate chain!â
The crazy thing is, my husband and I were still browsing and I was about to make a purchase, but once he rudely yelled at us I promptly put down my items and we all left.
I love supporting small businesses, but yelling at and scolding your customers is not something I...
