Have gone out of my way to shop here since I moved to the area (30 min drive each way), since they don't sell online and keep things local, but won't be anymore.
Tried to buy some recently unbanned mtg cards. Got all the way to checkout and was told the price. It was about double what I was expecting, so I asked to see the app they use to price everything (TCGplayer). They were using TCGplayer median pricing. Due to the unbans the card prices were extremely volatile, and there were very few online listings, so the median was extremely inflated. When I explained this to the manager and asked for a better price, I was told no and was told that the app used 'market mid' prices (which isn't a thing). They were using median, which for the EMA printing was $80 at that particular moment in time, market price was about $35).
I bought the cards online for $35 each in their parking lot. In the time it took me to drive home, the median is already down to $42, which I would have paid to buy local. Please make sure your employees understand the price data they are using, and when it may be bad.
Edit since the owner responded: Marketplace Mid is not a thing on the TCGplayer app. There is 'mid', which I am sure is what they are referring to, but that is an extremely confusing misnomer given that the app also provides 'market' price, which is different. Second, there is literally a graph on the website that shows the price over time that refutes the 'price hasn't changed much' since the unban statement. A non-sale due to the fluctuating price would have been disappointing but acceptable. That is not...
Read moreMy husband and I spent apx. an hour in here and found some good deals that we dont have available in our area and bought around $70 worth of items. The next day my husband went back to the store to buy some more stuff and had an open conversation with the owner who then knew the value of the item pulled said item, raised the price, and immediately began to treat my husband poorly. Small business operate off making their customers happy but we were happy to go in and spend more money on several other items as well but the poor attitude of the owners is what I have reviewed. No one ripped off the store, we bought at the provided prices. Knowledge of products is key in the small business world, and obviously they didn't know what they had and got butt hurt when someone else did. My husband even went in to buy more product and apologize and they took it down as well. If you don't know the values of items, don't blame your customers, but take a look at the way you operate your business. We paid what you asked on the product. If anything you ripped yourself off by pulling product you were making money on. It sitting on the shelf isn't making any money at all. You having a pricing problem isn't the customers fault it's yours. If you don't want to sell that's your decision, but you don't blame...
Read moreUp there visiting the store pretty frequently. Very nice employees, super clean store. They get busy sometimes, that's a good thing. If they are swamped just head to Dollar Tree and look around for a bit, head back in 10-20 min...they keep the store moving as quick as they can. Great selection of singles...honestly one of the best I can find in STL area. Always have good stock of Magic packs, precons, and accessories. Worth the drive if you're a little out. Also use thier Facebook messenger to send over single card orders. I'll request 20 cards and they have them...
