This store is the best of the bunch!
This is not your typical Sav-a-Lot store, not at all. Upper Sandusky has limited choices when it comes to grocery stores, so this Sav-a-Lot has stepped up to the plate. It's not the freshest looking, with the prettiest interior, or the most modern layout. It doesn't need it. Please read on.
First of all, when you walk through the door, it seems bigger than your average Sav-a-Lot location. It either has significantly more room for more products than the other stores from the chain within a half hour's drive from me, or somehow they have magically crammed more into the same space? All I know is that they offer more brands and products than either Galion or Marion.
Second, this is the only Sav-a-Lot that I have ever been to that has an actual deli department, and their prices are lower than the big box store in town. In fact, they're lower than what we have in Bucyrus.
Third, they have name brand products in their freezer section that I haven't seen carried in Galion or Marion, and bulk frozen items. Restaurant food supplies here? In a Sav-a-Lot? Whoa!
Fourth, their meats look to be well-cut, and when we were there they had very good deals on beef. These days you'd think steers were endangered, the prices are so high. These folks were selling thick, even-cut, well-marbled t-bones, a pair, for $15.00. $7.99 a pound?! Really?! I found stew beef for that over in Bucyrus and my pulse started racing ...
Fifth, they actually have in-house prepared foods. It's simple stuff like sweet fluffs, ham salad, etc., but it's surprisingly affordable.
Sixth, they have large containers of spices. I'm Joe, and I'm a spice-a-holic. Sage, cumin, chili powder, and bay leaves I buy in bulk. They have nice, large containers for $4.99.
Seventh, they have a really nice Latino food section. My husband is from Texas, so we do a lot of Tex-Mex and Latino cooking. We'll be back here to keep stocked up!
Oh, the staff are fantastic. For our handicapped friends, everything was very accessible.
You get five stars from me, keep up the amazing...
Read moreThis is my favorite place to shop. They have some of the best meats. Beef, chicken and pork. Their deli is the best. Try the spicy pineapple ham it's the only place around that carries it. Any how I got the premade pizza sub from there and it's fantastic! I put my oven on 350 and baked it for 15 minutes. $5 sandwich with good quality meat and cheese can't beat it. UPDATE the snapps are 3 for a $1.00. Look at how golden brown they came out and pretty decent tasting. Little Debbie snack cakes 2 for $5. Smith's sour cream and french onion dip whaaat? That's good quality stuff there. Best french onion dip I've ever had it's $1.99.The juice is $1.49 it comes in Tropical punch and fruit punch. Very good tasting stuff. I hope this was helpful. I come here often so I'll keep you...
Read moreI've been going to this Save a Lot since it opened a few years ago. The store is always clean, orderly and usually well stocked. You won't find a large variety of items, but they have the basics every kitchen needs, as well as a small selection of home goods. Sometimes they have specials for limited brand name items, as well as "mystery bags" which are around $2 and contain more than $2 worth of items, albeit not always something you might use, haha. The prices closely match Aldi's, and it is a bag your own food store, so be sure to bring...
