Sigh…My family and I ventured into this cute little store today. The produce looked so good and the plants looked even better. We were highly impressed! My daughter asked for some fruit and I was about to buy some Millie’s cinnamon rolls from the freezer area. There was an older white gentlemen sitting in a chair near the freezer/fridge. I asked if they took cards. He said, “EBT? We don’t take EBT.” With a confused look on my face, I said, “Uhm…no…I was asking if you took DEBIT cards!” He said, “Oh, yea, I’m sorry. We do take debit cards.”…Here’s the problem, I’m not sure why he immediately assumed my BLACK family had EBT. What about us made him think that we were in there with food stamps and not just regular old, good old fashioned MONEY?? Needless to say, I left with no cinnamon rolls lol and my family will never return. Cute place, but the covert racism was truly on sale...

I have been a faithful shopper at Murphree's since I moved to Cahaba Heights 2 years ago. Yesterday I was verbally assaulted by the owner. He wrongfully accused me of allowing my dog to poop on his property and not clean it up. He continued to brow beat me and tell me he had watched me every morning.... this is as I stand there with a bag pack full of supplies to clean up my dog's mess. I tried earnestly to defend myself. He was rude and mean. I will no longer shop at an establishment where the owner has called me a liar and disrespected me in such a manner. That is not what community is all about. It is sad that I will no longer be able to support a locally owned business but rather have to shop at big box stores. But at least at those places I will be treated...

Great experience! Knowledgeable staff. Beautiful selection of produce and plants. Most importantly, they are putting the safety of their customers and employees at the forefront with their sanitization practices, requiring customers to use their hand sanitizer and gloves, and requesting social distancing all while providing excellent customer service.
