This turned out to be one of the most frustrating retail experiences I’ve had—even though the staff seemed like genuinely good people.
I came in looking for a stereo system and was shown one that seemed promising. While it played, the demo CD glitched and skipped. I didn’t even ask about it—before I could say anything, the woman immediately offered an excuse, saying something about the building’s reception or interference. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and mentioned I’d still look around but had my eye on that system.
She then showed me another setup and walked me through some of its features. Eventually, that system ran into its own issues, and she didn’t know how to fix it. I reassured her it was fine and said I’d probably go with the first one.
Once I got the stereo home, I played several of my own CDs and quickly realized the same glitching issue happened with all of them. Three days later—when the store reopened—I brought it back and explained the problem. The man there used a laser cleaning disc, popped in one of my CDs, and played it at low volume while chatting about his first concert. After a minute or so, we agreed it sounded okay—but the issue came back that same day.
I bought my own disc cleaner and tried multiple cleaning cycles, but the glitching never fully went away. Eventually, I opened the unit to clean the laser directly and found it buried and filthy. That’s when it became clear: this wasn’t a carefully maintained or refurbished piece of equipment. It was an old, neglected system that had been flipped with minimal effort.
They didn’t build the system, and I honestly don’t think they were trying to rip me off—but the way they handled the issue showed a lack of real testing, cleaning, and accountability. Friendly attitudes don’t make up for poor product quality and half-hearted service.
If you’re considering shopping here, be cautious. I’d strongly recommend testing everything thoroughly and not relying on appearances or vague...
Read moreUPDATE: I had to post this review to even get a response since we called multiple times and never got a call back. We have limited time and expect a business to return our calls in a timely manner especially when we call multiple times and leave our phone number. I also responded to the Facebook message you sent me and you didn’t respond back.
I know how important reviews are to businesses and I am not trying to destroy your reputation. I am being honest about the lack of communication, the product failing and call backs. We know things happen with vintage items. We just expected better customer service and a call back.
We just wanted some guidance and understand that there was a 2 week warranty. We were just looking for your expertise on what may be wrong and if we could drive the 3.5 hours from Dallas to you to repair it.
We actually have an audio store here in Dallas that offers a month warranty. The receiver sat in our living room entertainment center and we played it only a couple of times.
My review stands as it is the truth. We have found an audio place to work on it here in Dallas. ————————— I had a terrible experience with this vintage audio store. I purchased a vintage receiver from them, and within just three weeks, it completely stopped working. When I initially bought it, I was promised it was in good working condition, but clearly, that wasn't the case. I’ve tried reaching out multiple times to get a refund or at least have it repaired, but no one is answering my calls or emails. It’s incredibly frustrating, and I feel like I’ve wasted my money. I would not recommend this store to anyone—poor customer service and...
Read moreFive Star ⭐ for the very nice lady who has been there whenever I have visited. Very helpful and honest. One of the brags on their website, is that you can get more for your money than you can on the websites like ebay or Etsy, etc. Possibly this is true, however, the bottom line is this. Most of the items at JB's (And, I emphasize, MOST..., Not all.) Show signs of being previously used, while it SEEMS like more of the items on the websites LOOK nicer than some of the things at JB's, NEVERTHELESS, at JB's, you can test the items for function and performance, because they have such a great variety of things, you can get a better idea of how the items will perform once you get them home. My wife introduced me to JB's (!) And the last time I was there, looking for a turntable, there was a cheap SONY usb unit that looked like new, it basically was. The guy that tried to buy it before I did tried it out in the store, but couldn't figure out how to get the drive belt on, but I got it to work no prob, and got an essentialy new $200 turntable, for... A LOT less! Also picked up a used but very nice system cabinet to put all my stuff in for a very nice price. With the new turntable on top and my Amps, Disc players, and such in the cabinet rack, it makes my office, study, music room, Batcave look and function much better. If you are interested in putting together a home theater, stereo system, or yes, a BAND, and want more bang for your buck, then check ✔️ out JB's Analog. They have plenty of digital audio, and...
