I feel compelled to share my disappointing experience with Dr. Verdine and the Mercy – Washington, MO Hand Surgery Clinic. As a long-time patient of Mercy Hospital and its Clinics, I had high expectations for care and professionalism. Unfortunately, my experience fell far short of that. I was scheduled for surgery and was working through the details with Dr. Verdine’s “Patient Care Advocate.” The procedure involved anesthesia that required monitoring for several hours afterward, and no driving for 24 hours. Typically, this is managed with a "23-hour stay" at the hospital, which is treated as an outpatient visit. She told me that this stay would not be covered by my Medicare, and furthermore, that my secondary insurance would not cover it either because of the lack of Medicare coverage. This turned out to be incorrect information. When I discovered that my secondary insurance would indeed cover the stay, I immediately notified Mercy Hospital. To my surprise, Mercy Hospital informed me that my surgery had already canceled by Dr Verdine. I received no prior notice. The situation only worsened from there. I was directed to speak with Dr. Verdine's office manager, but before I could explain the situation, she told me I was "fired" as a patient and my surgery was canceled permanently. She raised her voice, claiming I had been "disruptive" and had taken "too much of their time." This behavior was not only unprofessional but also unnecessary, as I had been nothing but respectful throughout the process. Dr. Verdine and his office manager then wrote entries into my medical record which I found deeply troubling and unjustified. In my opinion, the frustration over insurance issues had led Dr. Verdine and his office manager to choose to place the blame on me rather than address their own missteps in communication. This negative experience is not an isolated one, as I have seen 1-star reviews from other patients on Healthgrades detailing similar behavior from Dr. Verdine and his Mercy staff. Sadly, based on my experience, I would not recommend Dr. Verdine or the Mercy – Washington Hand Surgery...
Read moreI'm not one to write reviews but I had to in this case because the service was horrifying. Honestly if I didn't go to another hospital I very well could have lost my kidney. I went in to the ER because I had a pain in my right side and it was unbearable to the point that I was crying and I have a high pain tolerance. So I went in they were very nice to me and pretty quick to respond. I told them what was going on and the fact that this had happened 4-5 years ago and they thought it might have been a cyst on my ovary. So all they did was try and give me a pill for the pain (which I immediately threw up) then they gave me a shot of morphine with hurt much more than it should have and I had a giant bruise at the injection site for weeks. I was starting to feel better, maybe because I wasn't moving and just laying there. They came in and told me Oh well it's not an ovarian cyst so you can go now. So my boyfriend and I left and then after picking up a prescription about 10-15 mins later I started vomiting continuously. So I called the ER again and they were very rude and said well you need to make an appointment with your regular doctor (which if I did it would be at least 6 months to get in) or they said I could come back in. So I figured I would try to wait it out. I still kept vomiting I couldn't even keep liquids down I was dry heaving and couldn't keep the medicine down. They never ran blood tests or scanned any part of my body or anything like that. So then I called my mother and we went up to the ER all the way up in Jefferson City (Where my parents live close to). They ran blood tests and everything and found out my kidney had blockage in it and I had to have surgery or I would have lost my kidney. If you have a serious problem and need to go to the ER I highly recommend that you go somewhere else because they aren't going to do anything but tell you what you already know and...
Read moreReason for Visit: 19 month old son was in severe pain and had a 101 fever this morning. Took him into the E.R. Was checked in, and it took about 45 minutes foe them.to get his vitals. When asked his symptoms I told them he had a fever of 101, and was VERY distraught. Usually a sippy cup would calm him. He wouldn't eat. He wouldn't drink any liquids. NO VOMITING. IMPORTANT FOR LATER. They ship us back to waiting room. At the time we were chronologically #2 in line. Several other people came in a couple of them I understood needing immediate mesical attention. Then a family of 5 comes in DEMANDING to be covid-19 tested on the spot, despite being told by all of the E.R. staff thats not the procedure and they neededto go to TAUC or Walgreens foe that. They refused. Exaggerated their symptoms to be seen and were taken before my child and a few other sick kiddos. One we got to a room, nurses came in and did their routine thing. DOCTOR came in, looked in 1 ear looked in the other couldn't see much for a ball od wax. "The eardrum is a but red Im going to give him an antibiotic for ear infection." Sat in the room forever. 4 hours total. Finally a nurse comes and tells me "we gave him a dise of antibiotic.." I stopped him there because what they actually gave him was Motrin. Niceto know they don't read their charts. Anyways, after a total of about 6 hours I took him to another clinic who did a more thorough examination. They figured out hes actually teething and the pain is coming through in waves. This poor kid suffered for an additional 8 hours because Mercy Washingron Doctors couldn't be bithered to do a more thorough examination of my son. Im apalled at how dismissive they were when I asked follow up questions, they were very passive in answering any questions and overall extremely unprofessional and very hasty with their MISDIAGNOSIS. DO BETTER MERCY. DO BETTER. For the kids....
