Initially, I too was awed by the cleanliness of the new Target and the friendliness of the staff. And of course its proximity to my home less than 5 minutes away. The thought of no longer having to trudge to Columbia Heights for baby supplies was truly liberating. Until, I looked closely at the prices on my first visit. A word of warning--the prices at this target for several items that I purchased are higher than at the Columbia Heights target, particularly for baby supplies. I did speak to a staff person who said Target alters the prices based on regions. But how can Columbia Heights be that different from Ivy City. If you look at the zip code and median income--The median income for 20002 is only 1 or 2000 above Columbia Heights. How can that justify different pricing? And who else does that in the city? I have never noticed that at Whole Foods, or Giant, or other big box stores like Best Buy. It's scandalous.
I first noticed because my child's baby formula was priced on the shelf as 7 dollars above what I paid for in the Columbia Heights Target. And then noticed the diapers were priced on the shelf as 2 dollars more than what I paid at the Columbia Heights Target. Luckily the price online matched what I knew I paid at the Columbia Heights store. I mentioned it to the cashier--who said they were still new and working out some confusion over pricing and what was on the shelves wasn't always what the item would ring up as. And she did match what I showed her the price was online. It's been over a month since my first visit and I'm not sure they have yet to get the prices on the shelves to match what they ring up for first of all, but I have seen that prices are consistently higher on many items than what they sell for on line--and I imagine what they sell for at the Columbia Heights store. In some cases 20 cents higher, and in some cases a couple of dollars higher. Sure they will "match" the price online if you realize it and show them, but who wants to take the time to look up their 15 items and slow the line down. Well, my suggestion--everyone should be super annoying and slow the line down just to make a point. So Target may alter pricing based on region--even neighborhoods in the same city where the median income is basically the same?!?!?! I had no idea. ...
Read moreI live next door, at the Hecht Warehouse, so when my husband and I first moved in and we were told that Target was going in we were thrilled. It's very convenient to have a store such as Target the block over....
But it definitely doesn't live up to the expectations most have for Target. They kept saying that they were going to get a license to sell alcohol, but that hasn't happened yet. I'm not even sure where they would put the alcohol though. The store is so small, yet there is so much space in the building, so none of us can figure out why the store itself is so small- please expand!
As other reviewers have mentioned, they tend to stock at the worst times. They are always blocking aisles and products with large pallets and carts loaded to the brim, making it difficult to get what you need- as if it were actually stocked. I think I counted it taking them over 7 days to get the back to school section stocked up. Seven+ days of shelves half-empty and pallets everywhere.
I bought sausage the other day to make breakfast, and it was still frozen solid. There was also a time when it was over a month before they had brown sugar restocked.
Pre-Covid the stocking was a problem. Post-Covid, it's still an issue.
They also are so mixed in how they treat their customers. Sometimes I go in, and they are nice. Sometimes, they are snappy. And other times, they hardly speak to you. My husband and I have seen the workers get in fights with each other, which makes it very awkward when shopping.
And the "best part"- the same day I bought the frozen solid sausage for breakfast that morning, I was begged to leave a positive review "because the store couple really use it." If it's obvious your customers aren't happy, then do something to actually fix it. Don't ask...
Read moreToday I ordered online at target 20 items(mostly office supplies & otc meds - easy stuff that was in stock) for pickup at the small New York Ave NE Target. But it was the worst service I have ever received at a target. I got an email from target , said my order was ready around 3:15pm. Cool. I couldn't go get it so I asked my boyfriend to get it. He came back and said they were having a problem at the customer service desk and all they gave him were 4 out of 20 items I had ordered. So I called the NY Ave store and spoke to Brandon. He said he would refund me the money from my missing items onto a target gift card. I said I didn't pay using a target gift card so I f there's a refund put it back on my credit card. Then I said better yet send someone thru the store to pick up my missing items so I don't have to shop for them again. Plus my boyfriend had gone back to the target to pick up the remaining order. At 6pm he had to wait 1 hour for them to try to fill on online order that I had placed at 12noon. At 7pm they gave him another partial order and a $20 gift card, the order was still missing 8 items. I usually prefer target, but I must say that this is definitely the worst service that I have ever received at any target. And this is only maybe the 2nd time I have ordered online from target. I'm pretty sure that this is the last online target order I will ever do. It's not the end of the world. They just need more training on how to fulfill online orders for pickup at the NY Ave target. More training there, please. I called the target Corp office and someone named Peter did assist me in trying to figure...
