My elderly mom went to the hospital after being found unconscious on the floor. An ambulance took us to the emergency room and it took over two hours for someone to see us.
During our stay, she was designated a fall risk and needed help going to the bathroom but the nurses never answered the call button. My daughter had to call me at home for me to come to the hospital because she was holding down my mom and telling her to just go to the bathroom in her pants because no one ever responded to the call button. When I went to the nurses to complain that no one ever responded - they said that if I needed something from them, I should have pushed the button to let them know instead of walking to the nurses station.
There were at least a half a dozen times no one ever answered the call button at all. We checked to make sure the button was working - and it was. They just don't answer. Because of my mom being a fall risk, there was a buzzer on the bed that would go off if she tried to get up. She would get up and no one would respond to the buzzer so we tried to stay there with her - only going home to shower and come right back.
One time, I tried to call the main hospital number to speak to a floor manager and see if I could get a nurse or a tech to help us because no one would respond to our call - only to be transferred back to the fourth floor again and no one ever picked up the telephone.
My mother was left with her lasagna dinner on her hospital gown until lunch time the next day. It was only changed because we complained. One of the RN's left her slumped over, uncovered, and crying.
The social worker only recommended one place for us to be released to and it didn't offer the medical services that my mom needed and didn't take the form of payment we had. If we had taken her recommendation, we would have been $11,000 out of pocket and needing to make payment plans to cover it.
I am giving two stars only because the doctors were great and ran every test imaginable and offered great assistance. Unfortunately, the incorrect discharge papers were sent to the facility upon release and the doctors there didn't realize she had a terminal illness. It was a day or two after discharge we realized their mistake and had the correct papers sent over.
We were asked by management within one or two hours of being in our room if we were happy with our care and we said yes, because we hadn't received any care yet. I wonder if this is because of potential lawsuits so they have it on record that you said you were happy before dealing with the staff. I later asked if I could speak to the same person to let them know what was happening but they said they didn't know who it was and couldn't find them.
I have pictures of my mom with her filthy clothes and being left slumped over but don't want to humiliate her by publicly posting pictures of the shameful way she was treated. I never, ever leave bad reviews but it's well worth it if this helps the owners or management improve.
I can see the people who post reviews here get the same response - that the reviewers should go somewhere else to post a complaint. This is a perfect example of everything wrong with this hospital - no matter who you talk to or where you complain, they tell you it's not their job and you should tell someone else. These reviews are not about a restaurant where the server took too long or the food was cold, it's only a matter of time until the negligence and apathy of this hospital could cause serious injuries...
Read moreSorry Baylor I hadn't finished writing my review before you replied on my 3 stars... let me clarify.
When Baylor Waxahachie moved to 35 and 287, our family started going to this Hospital. And the last 3 times before this current visit we have had a great experience. However I'm not sure if it is growing pains since they have expanded rapidly or if we just got a bad doctor but this experience was very bad when it comes to her medical care. If this was a hotel we received excellent service and I might have given 5 stars.
My mother went not feeling well, turns out she had pneumonia. She gets an antibiotic, they run some tests.
However as a patient her right to know her care was violated. She was told her hemoglobin count had dropped significantly since she had arrived at the Hospital (which I believe to have been a side effect of the antibiotic and the fluids they were giving her). They ran blood tests every 3-4 hours, she was never informed of the results of those tests. Her goal for the day was to monitor her lab results.
She has had bariatric surgery and is diabetic, yet she was given the ADA 1800 calorie diet. I would have a nutritionist review the effectiveness of that plan giving a diabetic 60 carbs a meal seems a little excessive IMHO. They did not offer a bariatric diet plan.
Her blood sugar levels weren't checked for hours after her arrival, when they were they were naturally very high (294) They gave her only 3 units of insulin. (Didn't ask about her sliding scale, they had their own sliding scale) The doctor didn't give my mom her metformin the last evening we were there because the doctor thought that she might want to do a contrast test (without informing her, she had to ask why she didn't get her medicine.)
She had pneumonia and never received a breathing treatment. The doctor asked how her breathing treatments were going. Even after being informed that she hadn't received any she was sent home, she developed a fever shortly after coming back home.
The staff is as friendly as can be however I think they focus more on being like a hotel than a Hospital. I give it 3 stars only because of the excellent treatment received in the past. However reading some of the reviews from the past few weeks my experience was not unique. I am disappointed that this Hospital has declined in quality. I like the Baylor Healthcare system and would hope that processes will be reevaluated and better procedures put into place.
I feel it part of my responsibility as a member of the community to provide honest feedback not only in the hopes that this Hospital take more seriously the responsibility they have to provide quality care and respect the patients rights to know what is going on with their healthcare but also to inform others of my experience and opinions so that they can make an informed decision on where they choose to send...
Read moreI have had multiple surgeries at this hospital and have visited family/friends there. Always great experiences. This review is specifically about the emergency room. I’ve been a few times over the years, and no one EVER seems to be in a hurry about anything. But last night we had to take our 18 month old son to the ER due to difficulty breathing. I was terrified and knew there would be protocols in place for covid, but what we experienced was infuriating. As soon as I walked in there was a lady screening people for symptoms of covid. She took my temp and my son’s and asked standard questions. I was trying to hurry so I could get my son checked in. This woman then asked me to put a mask on my son. A mask on my 18 month old son who was struggling to breathe. I said no and walked away to the desk to check in. (This NEEDS to be stopped. The CDC does NOT recommend a face mask on a child under 2. Not only is it completely ignorant to ask a parent to do this, but it’s also ridiculous that they think a young toddler will even keep it on.) I went to the desk to check in, and of course the woman at the desk was slow and seemed very uncaring. I asked if my husband could come inside. (He was parking the car at the moment.) She coldly said no, only one parent was permitted. My husband then walked in and I saw him and told him he had to wait in the car. I began crying because I was already scared for my son, but now I had to go through this alone. I had to wait for a few minutes. It wasn’t a long wait, but when a baby is struggling to breathe, you’d think they would put a little pep in their step. We finally got to a room and waited for 20 minutes for a doctor to come in. Again, child with labored breathing in the room. The doctor came in, and she was great. She listened and had great bedside manner. She was able to determine very quickly that my son most likely had croup and ordered a steroid for him. I needed to use the restroom so badly, but I was alone with my son. I called the nurse desk and asked for someone to sit with my child so I could run to the restroom. 20 minutes later, a nurse came in and sat with my son. In the end, my son was treated and is doing so much better today. I’m so grateful! However if these protocols need to be in place, the hospital should REALLY hire or schedule extra people to support those who come in and need assistance. In addition the staff working the front desk should be better trained on basic customer service. The woman who got me checked in didn’t seem to care what happened to my child. And most importantly, whoever screens people at the door should NEVER ask or encourage a parent to put a mask over a baby or young toddler or anyone struggling to breathe. Things...
