Over the past 5 months, I have visited the following retro game stores multiple times, with at least two visits to each:

I’ve built a collection of cartridge games spanning classic systems such as the Sega Master System, NES, Game Boy (Color and Advance), Game Gear, TurboGrafx-16, Atari Lynx, and Neo Geo Pocket Color. I have a deep appreciation and nostalgia for cartridge-based games, their distinctive laminated labels, unique physical designs, and the look of the old-school PCBs especially the ones with a watch battery.

Pixelated recently opened and is now the 8th retro game store I’ve visited in the past five months. I discovered the store through its social media presence and made two purchases on back-to-back days. It’s now one of my top two favorite retro game stores.

My 2 days of purchases included a GameBoy Micro, hardcover strategy guide for Gears of War 2, and the Super Mario 30th Anniversary hardcover encyclopedia. For retro games I purchased 3 CIB TG-16, 7 CIB SMS and 5 CIB Genesis games. For loose I purchased 2 GB and 1 NES game.

What makes the store stand out?

• The Owner: Mike, a lifelong collector, brings his passion to the store, offering retro toys, autographed sports memorabilia, comic books, Pokémon cards, video games, strategy guides, and related collectibles. Much of the items are from his personal collection which goes back decades. • Product Quality: The quality of the retro games is exceptional—most have pristine labels, which is rare. Mike explained he only stocks clean, high-quality cartridges. • Fair Pricing: Prices are competitive and align closely with eBay sold listings and PriceCharting data. • Store Presentation: The store is clean, well-organized, and uses branded labels for used items, giving it a polished, professional feel. • Trade-Ins & Inventory: The store is actively receiving trade-ins. Mike personally handles testing and cleaning to ensure consistency and maintain high standards which does mean it takes more time for traded items to get on the shelf. • Customer Service: Mike is friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely enjoys helping customers. His customer-first approach is a big part of what makes the store stand out.

I plan to return frequently and highly recommend supporting Pixelated as a go-to destination for retro gaming. With continued growth and the right team, it has strong potential to become a staple in the retro gaming community.

I had an amazing experience at Pixelated Treasures! This retro game store is a paradise for anyone who loves classic video games. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by friendly staff who clearly share a passion for gaming.

The selection is impressive, with everything from vintage consoles to rare cartridges. I found some nostalgic gems that brought back so many great memories. The store is well-organized, making it easy to browse through various sections, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable.

I was trying to keep my kids appreciating things (tangible and the history of such) instead of brain rotting and downloading this and that. It seems they have as much fun hunting around as I do. We visited plenty of stores all over north and central NJ (even vintage/antiquing in PA) and I have to say this is one, if not the best for games and toys. Mind you he's still growing the shop and rotating out his toy displays. Feel free to ask about an item you are searching for. The decent sized shop is clean, well-lit and organized.
