Larson Park is a real gem in our collective back yards. It is deceptively large, boasting twin tennis courts, no lights, ball field, open field for energetic children, a variety of swings, a youth climbing wall, a safety minded play ground with equipment suited for two different age/skill levels from toddler and school age. There is a large open Pavillion, toilet facilities, and beautifully maintained landscaping. Real attention has been paid to the selection of plantings around the Pavilion, paved paths wander among them and the impressive selection of trees. One hidden, off the path, and possibly verboten feature of Larson Park, is access to Shady Creek. The Creek is limestone, is generally passable, and can provide a glimpse at a variety of woodland creatures, from deer, foxes, and turkeys, to garter snakes and numerous spiders. Proceed at your own risk, but myself, my daughter and grandchildren have delighted in playing at Larson Park, and...

It seemed a bit small, but possibly this was just a consequence of my lack of familiarity with the park. Overall, the atmosphere was quaint, quiet, and a great place for some photo ops while the pups enjoyed a stimulating new territory. We'll...
Read moreAn extremely nice, low traffic park with a heavily shaded playground and clean bathrooms nearby. This hard-to-find park is tucked away off Kirkham at the border of Webster Groves and Glendale. The bug-themed playground had room for many more kids than it was hosting on such a beautiful September day, and the landscaping and maintenance are on par with Webster's upscale reputation. Take the trail to a secret swingset, and enjoy a nice section of St. Louis's storm creeks that hasn't been turned into a cement canal, but has instead enjoyed thoughtful, conservation-minded streambank rehabilitation. A model...
