I got into exotic meats recently and heard they had kangaroo meat here. I got a pound of that, as well as a pound of camel meat. I've never tried kangaroo meat before, but I had camel meat when I was in North Africa. These exotic meats are much leaner than the beef we're accustomed to in the states. I wasn't sure how to prepare them but after some research about the cultures they come from I made Nourish Bowls with the kangaroo, and a tagine with the camel. The meat was 10% off which was a nice surprise. I'd be interested in trying ostrich if they ever got that in!

I bought a whole duck, whole rabbit, goat pieces, ground bison, and lamb liver. I love the variety of meat options as well as grass fed quality for a lot of the meats. I especially enjoyed the lamb liver, which is harder to find and was at a pretty good price. The lady who was working there helped me out with the list of items I intended on getting. I was really appreciative of that. I also tried grass fed goat ghee butter. I really enjoyed that too. I highly recommend this place.

Prairie Natural Meats & Seafood is hands down the best place in West Des Moines for top-quality meat and seafood. The selection is unbeatable, offering cuts and options you simply won’t find at grocery stores. The quality is outstanding—everything is fresh, flavorful, and sourced with care.

Beyond the product itself, the service is phenomenal. I’ve worked with Grant and Mariem, and both have been fantastic—knowledgeable, helpful, and committed to making sure you get exactly what you need. The best part? The prices are lower than anywhere else locally, making it an easy choice over big-box stores.

If you’re serious about quality meat and seafood at great prices, Prairie Natural Meats & Seafood is the only place to go....

This isn’t a review of the product. We were passing through town hoping to pick up various products. We were upset to see that the building was closed during the posted operating hours. We called several times, checked social media, and reached out on WhatsApp trying to get a hold of someone to find out if the store would be opening. We waited in the parking lot for half an hour before leaving. It was a disappointing experience, especially because we changed plans on a cross country trip road trip to come purchase from this shop. In the future it would help to know ahead of time of an unexpected closure through social media or a sign...
