I have shopped at this Stop and Shop since 1973. Let me just say the service, quality and quantity of the products all depend on what day and time you shop. If you go first thing in the morning, it's generally a great shopping experience. If you go on the weekend after 12 noon, you'll have a disaster of a shopping experience. The most irritating aspect of this store is when they put items on sale. They go quick and aren't re-stocked. For instance, they had ground Perdue Chicken on sale. By 2PM on a Sunday, there wasn't one package left. When I asked the gentleman in the meat department if they had any left, he curtly said, if it's not out there, it's not in here. His attitude was like I bothered him. The big minus to this store operation is re-stocking. They don't have the staff or room to stock properly. By size, it's a very small store and nowhere the size of a Super Stop and Shop. The other irritating aspect of this store is if you enjoy playing the lottery, they shut down the lottery machine to "balance." This is the ONLY store I know of that shuts off lottery sales anywhere from 10-30 minutes to balance. You would think they would have two separate drawers. One to be dedicated to lottery only sales. The pluses of the store are personnel that always seem to show good customer service skills. Jessica is refreshing as a front end supervisor, Edie who has been there forever and Felicia has a great sense of humor. Many managers have come and gone at this location and looking back, Leo Leary knew how to run it and so did Ron (can't think of his last name) but was transferred after a short stay. In the 48 years I've shopped here I have most likely spent 10K a year on food. If you do the math, we have been loyal customers. At times we are frustrated and bewildered at both quantity and quality but sometimes say, let's go shopping for more punishment. There are many shopping choices in West Hartford. This Stop & Shop needs to develop consistency in every aspect of retail. If you hit it right, you could have a five star shopping experience. In retrospect, if you shop during a busy day at a busy hour, it could be a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWest Hartford location, 1235 Farmington Avenue, around 5:30 pm on October 30, 2023. If I could give zero stars, I would. I've been shopping here for several years spending several hundred dollars per week, and this is the first time I've ever had such deliberate, nasty, inconsiderate customer service at the deli counter. A young lady who did not seem like she wanted to be there (which I get but don't take it out on me) waited on me. I asked for a half-pound of roast beef, I asked for it please be sliced thin and I received eye rolls from her, I kindly asked for it to be a little thinner, even more eye rolls. She sliced much more than a half-pound and then asked me, "anything else"? I was feeling that I should just leave because she was that rude but I figured that I'd get one more thing because I was going to just make sandwiches for dinner. So, I asked for honey-maple turkey; she told me that would require her opening a new one from the back and she just stood there. She clearly did not want to go in the back to get it. So, I choose another turkey. I asked her to please slice it thin--- I received more eye rolls from her. Again, she slices more than a half-a-pound. As she is wrapping up the turkey, she then starts to loudly exclaim that something smells really bad behind the deli counter and it's disgusting and smells really bad. She was just being a complete jerk. I then walked away; put the cold cuts she already sliced on the deli counter and went to speak with the manager. I never complain. I am not one of those "speak to the manager" types but this behavior by this young lady was so atrocious and uncalled for that I felt that I had no choice but say something. I will never again go to that...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently moved to the area and noticed this stop & shop was close to my job, so figured Iād give it a try. I wonāt be back to this location, iād much rather drive further to a different one where Iām treated a lot better. The store is OK, itās the customer service that missed the mark. When I went to checkout, the woman who helped me (older woman, short blonde haircut), never greeted me or anything. When I said āhello how are you?ā She just stared downward. Once she started scanning my items, she accidentally scanned one of my items twice. When I pointed it out, she said sheād take it off at the end but never didāi had to go to customer service afterwards. Then there was an issue with my payment, which I know is my fault, but as I was apologizing profusely and trying to get service on my cell to fix it, she just gave me a dirty look and started tapping her fingers on the counterā as if to say āhurry tf upā lol. The people I was holding up in line were MUCH nicer than she was. Thank God for (who I think was) the manager who came over to help. She directed to me to the wi-fi to fix my payment issue and problem was resolved. She was very friendly and reassuring. Iāve worked in the service industry and in customer service so I get it, sometimes people have bad days, but the downside is after reading other reviews it seems this stop & shop has a consistency of having not-so-good...
