Kitchen Plate — Restaurant in West Hartford

The owner whose name I did not get, was incredibly friendly and sweet. He and his two staff members were the same. I read a facebook review and decided to try The Kitchen Plate last night. The time was after 7pm. There were several people there, two families, one had ordered and was waiting, the other ordered following me. I really enjoyed both the food and atmosphere. The place is CLEAN and calm. While it is mainly a take out environment you can definitely eat in. After my order, I had a question whether I could change my side from a Mediterranean salad to coleslaw and the owner simple gave me the coleslaw with a smile, asked me to do a google or yelp review, and later, when the restaurant was empty, (I enjoyed eating in..) the owner again with a smile, gave me a delicious taste sized dessert. Go! The classic puréed lentil (red lentil) soup was a VERY large sized portion!. The meal size portions were fine but could be larger. I think the owner wants you to try...

Not sure if they’re just so new that they don’t have their stuff together, but the first 3 things I tried to order, they didn’t have. And not in a “I’m sorry, we ran out” kind of way. Just, “we don’t have that” over and over again. (The first thing that I tried to order was grilled chicken. Right off the bat, I was shocked that they didn’t have something simple like that.) Paid $7 for a side of fries for my kids- it came in one of those TINY little Chinese takeout boxes and was still only half full. For $7! That probably annoyed me more than anything else. Ok so quality of the food- my friend said the salmon was amazing and it did look incredible. Rice was good, quinoa was good (different from what I’d expect from Mediterranean style food, but good), hummus was okay, fries were good, and falafel was awful. After receiving an incorrect order through Uber Eats, I contacted the restaurant and was promised a complimentary order on my next visit. However, when I arrived with my family, the owner not only reneged on the offer but also became defensive and dismissive.
