We visited Emerald Pool in Black Sand Basin and found easy parking for our 11' pull behind camper with minimal crowds in September. The pool’s current orange coloration is due to thermophilic microorganisms that colonized after a decrease in water temperature, shifting the system’s dominant microbial community from those that prefer higher temperatures (which produce blue and green hues) to those that thrive in cooler, more...
