My experience with this company was a nightmare. I bought the NYS salesperson course in February, completed it by mid April, and tried to take the final exam, but thats when the trouble started... After 3 phone calls of being told that I "had the wrong school" I finally got through to someone who realized I did in fact take this course. The confusion was that Real Estate University was not planning to offer the NY course this year. Several days after this realization occurred, I was transferred over to OnCourse Learning (the company that Real Estate University licenses the course from), with almost zero information. The final exam must be proctored, as per NYS requirements. The list of approved proctors are almost all libraries which are closed due to the pandemic. It took a week or more to find a branch of Sylvan Learning that would proctor the test remotely and for me to convince Oncourse Learning to allow a proctor not on the list (although Sylvan learning is mentioned in their proctor info email). The trouble persisted right up to the end because no one informed me that my log in info would change with the change of companies (the UI looks nearly identical), so the proctor code didnt work on the RE University page which I had been using all along. However, i did finally pass the final exam and have rid myself of this nightmare. By the way, all of this was during the stress of being a graduate student at the end of semester, during a once in a century pandemic.
Perhaps even more troubling is that Real Estate U offers online proctoring through a service called ProctorU for only $15 compared to the $75 that I paid Sylvan. If Real Estate University and Oncourse Learning are too ignorant or incompetent to innovate like their competitors, then let them perish by not supporting them. I dislike the cheesy graphics and gimics of real estate U, but I actually bought their course too ($100, 80% refundable) because I had zero faith that these other two companies would budge. This was mostly to hedge against the possibility of having to wait until phase 4 when libraries reopen to take this course final.
I get that the pandemic is impacting everyone and every business now, but when you run an online education platform, it should be easy to adapt to the changes, but Real Estate University did not do that. As for the actual content, it was decent, but totally overwhelmed by the amount of time, effort and stress put into dealing with customer service. Again, DO NOT support this company, particularly if you are...
Read moreI came to REU to learn more about specific legal and practical matters associated with the RE business. Expectations exceeded! I'm RE investor, developer and landlord, so I needed to know what I didn't know. I am very pleased with my experience. The classes are offered both mornings and evenings, which provided great flexibility, which I needed in order to run my business while attending classes. The same curricula is followed both days and evenings, so when I was unable to attend the daytime class, I could simply attend at night (the same subject matter) and avoid falling behind. Karena, the headmistress, is very knowledgable and conducts her school in a somewhat informal, but always professional, manner. She is extremely experienced in the RE industry and is therefore able to provide "real life" experiences to underscore the lessons being covered in each class module. This technique is an invaluable tool, which converts the information contained in the text books and lesson plan from theoretical to reality. All the other instructors at REU are also experienced RE industry veterans, and have the same capacity to share real-life experiences in support of classroom instruction. I cannot overstate the value of this aspect of REU. In addition, I met some very nice, like-minded individuals here which made coming to class more enjoyable for me. The atmosphere was cordial yet focused, and therefore was very conducive to sharing experiences and hearing from other students, many of whom have some degree of RE exposure. This ongoing exchange of ideas creates a greater overall learning experience than would be the case in a typical classroom situation. I found REU to be highly informative and extremely valuable, which ultimately makes me more knowledgable and better at what I do. That's what I came here for and I got it. I highly recommend REU, Karena and her expert staff. I got more...
Read moreGreat School! Look no further! The program and schedule really makes it easy to attend the classes you need. If you find yourself in need of further clarification on a particular subject, you can always attend the class again on the same day! different instructors will point out different information making sure they cover everything! they will give you plenty of real life examples to remember that you can recall during the test as well! Julie Avellino is a great instructor! so is John Schiaroli! Rose is great too! and George did a great job on the math chapter! The test is great practice as well.
That being said, the PSI testing is tough. It seems like there are always two right answers on every question. The class is no guarantee you will pass, but in my opinion is possibly the best preparation for that unpredictable test! it's as good as it gets.
Also after I finished the class at Real Estate University I proceeded to move to the next step and send my credentials to PSI (different company) and PSI seemed to take forever to send my credentials; I ended up calling them about it and they scheduled my test over the phone. Make sure you call PSI if you don't receive your credentials! take the test while the classes are...
