The meat and the produce are good, but the owner is very unpleasant, putting his ego above customer satisfaction. Once, a customer complimented the owner on his wonderful hair in a rather peculiar way, and I shared a spontaneous smile with the very friendly salesperson who was assisting me. I never saw that salesperson again... Today, I asked the owner if he could freshly cut some beef stew for me, but without a word, he took from the less fresh stock, went to the back, and mixed it with the new batch. When I confronted him about it, he insisted they always have fresh meat. If they truly have fresh meat, why couldn't he just cut me 4 pounds and leave the 'just as fresh' batch on the tray? Besides, if he had answered my question about cutting 4 pounds of fresh meat by saying it's all fresh, like he did last time, I would have chosen different meat. Very dishonest behavior. Had my first visit yesterday and was very impressed! It's very unassuming from the outside, but they have quite a selection of side dishes and frozen/fresh meat options, as well as some pantry items (ex. boxed stocks, pastas, fresh onions). Great/friendly customer service! We picked up some steaks, but also tried the marinated skirt steak (which was recommended by the butcher). I ordered a small prime rib. The quality was not prime. The medium rare roast (roasted according to directions on the package) was almost impossible to cut. It was filled with gristle and a huge amount of fat. It was very chewy--even difficult to chew. I ended up throwing most of the meat away. My guests left most of the meat on their plates, which was embarrassing. Based on this experience, I will never order a prime rib roast again. It was very expensive and very poor quality. I have never put such a disappointing holiday meal in front of my guests...
