I have been a wildlife woodcarver for many years and have carved basswood from many sources. I recently became a customer of Janish Woodworks, Inc. Janish's basswood is some of the best I've ever had the pleasure of carving -- clear, kiln dried, straight grained. I've finished one powertool carving with it, so far, and am working on the second. I bought two large pieces of basswood for carving projects. I couldn't find what I wanted near where I live (in farm country California), so I bought online. The blocks are exactly as pictured and described. No pith or bad spots. Shipping wasn't cheap, but I was very pleasantly surprised when Barb Janish emailed and said she was reducing shipping because she was able to fit both blocks in a single box for less. Awesome retailer, for both in store & website shopping! I purchase and use their high quality kiln dried wood slices in a variety of species. Janish offers live edge slabs, Burl slabs, dry killed hardwoods, taxidermy plaques, basswood carving blocks, etc. I’ve also seen some of their beautiful laser engraved signs.
