Just a Sip – Hit or Miss, Depending on Your Drink
My wife called me on my way home from work and said she and the kids had stopped by Just a Sip—and loved it. She had a Piña Colada Coke and said they had tons of mix-in combos for my favorite soda, Mountain Dew. Naturally, I turned around and headed straight there.
The building is small, and the drive-thru is hard to spot—I actually assumed they didn’t have one until it was too late. Walking in, I was kind of disappointed. Yes, you can mix and match your favorite sodas with various add-ins, but soda isn’t like ice cream—it’s already finely tuned. Tossing in a bunch of extras can easily turn it into a hot mess.
I went with the only premade Mountain Dew option, something called “Spring Fields” or similar. It was just okay. Honestly, it tasted like soda water with a hint of Mountain Dew and some fruity undertones. The ingredients were fresh, but the combo didn’t work for me.
My youngest daughter, Winter, didn’t fare much better—she picked a Sprite and cherry combo that literally tasted like soda water. Bry (my wife) hit a winner with her Piña Colada Coke, and whatever Éowyn got, she liked too. So overall, it seems like a gamble.
Some combos are great, others miss the mark entirely. If you’re feeling brave, you can make your own, but even then, it’s kind of a roll of the dice. You might get a winner… or...
Read moreI had no idea when I first decided to try here that it was any more than a drink place. It also does ice cream/ice cream desserts (including ice cream nachos!) And it has some food as well! There’s a couple snacks and then they have hotdogs too!
I’d never been to one, but I absolutely loved this place!! I hate the sweetness of soda and when I heard that they could do half soda water and half soda, I was absolutely elated!! They have a delicious variety of drinks with various ingredients.
I got a medium Sunflower Fields with half Mt. Dew and half soda water and it was delicious!! I also ended up getting a two scoop to go ice cream of strawberry cheesecake and cookie dough. The strawberry was a little too sweet for me but, as a whole, it was tasty! Then I also got a pizza hotdog which was messy but oh so tasty!!
So recap: food was tasty and so were drinks; the staff was incredibly helpful to educate me on what they had and accommodate my few requests without hesitation; the atmosphere isn’t bad by any means, it just seems a bit squished in there, but their decoration/utensils etc are all fun and colorful which was...
Read moreDrinks are great, price is fair, but the pricing on the menu is deceptive. The menu leads you to believe that any of the drinks listed as a "Sassy Soda" will be the price listed above, which is determined by the size, and that any additional flavorings/cream/energy, etc., will run you an additional $.35, $.65, and $.99 repectively. However, a large Island Splash, will end up being $3.95 instead of the $2.25 you expect it to be. Once I figured out what they are doing, I thought it made sense at first until I saw they charged me $.35 for the strawberry lemonade ingredient, which is listed as an "Additional Soda Available", which again, makes you think it would be a "base", not a flavoring like the Strawberry flavoring in the Berry Limelight drink, as it's listed on my receipt.
I imagine this gets fixed soon. I'm sure it's crated a problem for others. But it's also hard to believe this was not thought about before...
