I showed up around 2pm and didn't know what to expect. I was bracing myself for the worst and once I found the ER, I thought that I had been misdirected into the Los Angels county jail. My wife had to wait outside in a tent for security reasons and I had to be hand wanded before I could be processed in and allowed to sit and wait in the lobby.
I had gone to my regular Dr. earlier but his office had reached its limit of patients for the day. Since two nights before I had been suffering from lower abdominal pains, so I decided to go see my personal Dr. And when that fell through, I looked up MLK. Surprisingly the reviews where mixed, I personally like to give people the benefit of the doubt so I usually read the positive reviews first. Lol. And people were writing about some of the positive changes that MLK had gone through, they seemed pretty convincing considering the physical state I was in. And if you read one of my previous reviews on another urgent care establishment in the city of Downey, you'll find out why I didn't go there.
Anyway, back to my review. My first impression was definitely something like "what the hell did I just get myself into!" There was a young gentleman that was pacing back and forth, talking with an angered voice, making comments about the staff. I do not know what exactly his story was but most definitely impressive to see the MLK security team in action. They quickly took the guy aside and talked him down. I could hear some of what they were saying to him, tactics like "sir, anger is going to get you nowhere, but if you calm down and talk to us maybe we can help you." I was truly surprised. Is this the same MLK that I had heard stories about growing up. That people would die waiting in the lobby because of gun shot wounds. Lol. Maybe exaggerations but those are some of the stories that would circulate about killer King, as it had been known back in the days.
After that incident, my perception started to change. I was promptly seen by a nurse who took my vitals and before I was done with her, I was already being called into another room to have some blood taken for lab analysis. Once I was done with having blood drawn, not even two minutes passed when the Doctor called me into his office. I explained to him what I was feeling and gave him some insight into my medical history. He explained to me what was to be done to figure out what was wrong with me. Then sent me to the part of the ER where patients were placed in gurneys and given their own partition. I was received by an RN by the name of Chantilly. She was friendly and very nice. She said that the Doctor requested a urine sample and told me that once the results of the lab analysis came back that the Doctor would see me again. I waiting no more than 30 minutes before the Doctor came back with word from the lab. They gave me some medication and another one of the Registered Nurses there explained how I was to use the prescribed medication at home. I left there dumbfounded. I could not believe how prompt I had been treated... not only that but the level of courtesy and care that I had been given was awesome. Everyone there looked busy, no one was just standing around doing nothing. If I had to use one word to sum up my experience with, I'd have to say efficient.
Yes, I know. I'm laying all my business out here, but I like to give credit where credit is due. And in my opinion, this hospital is finally starting to live up to the great name...
Read moreI hate this hospital so much, I came in with upper abdomen pain and I was given multiple times morphine even though I told them it did nothing only make me feel worst, my head hurts now and my stomach started hurting afterwards. I'm being discharged because they're finding nothing in my results, I'm leaving the hospital three times as worst as I came in. First time coming here and I regret it so much and instead they made me feel like I was only here for the narcotics even though I told them the on first shot it made me feel like horrible, I never want that painkiller again and then another nurse comes and injects more because I was in severe pain even though I told her it doesn't help and probably up the dose higher which had a severe side effects. This is the worst experience I've ever had in a hospital, making me feel like a drug addict but I just wanted to know what was wrong with me, I could care less for the drugs just diagnosed me. I'm even crying while still here typing this. Never come here for any pain cause they'll just accuse you of abusing drugs unless you fractured a bone. Should've just waited at Long Beach memorial even though they had a long wait time, I was just in severe pain but I probably would've gotten more sympathy at Long Beach memorial. These nurses don't care if you're crying or screaming, doctors are so mean and won't even hear you out. They do quick test just to kick you out in the end. They literally had me crying out for death for how their medicines messed me up. I'd give it 0 stars if it was an option, but have to admit they're quick on running test they probably didn't even do right. I came out here cause I was desperate. I'm leaving now with a severe headache, weakness, extreme dry mouth, upset stomach, nausea and severe anxiety. This is the most heartless place to be, specially the doctor I had I kept explaining what it could've been but he kept saying nope nope, test are fine you're fine. Now making me feel like I'm crazy that my pain isn't real, now I'm questioning my state of mind but I know what I feel is real. I rarely type reviews on hospitals but this needs to be said, I've had better help in Long Beach memorial and Los Alamitos ER. I was just impatient on the wait. Now to just deal with pain at home and the emotional stress they caused me. My nurse name was Silvia so watch out for her and my doctors name was Cary Gallardo watch out for...
