Corporate Neglect, Racial Inequity, and Managerial Failure
I am absolutely appalled by the state of this department store. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted not by customer service, but by leaking ceilings and buckets scattered across the floor to catch rainwater. The roof is in such disrepair that it’s not just unsightly, it’s a serious safety hazard. Wet floors, exposed leaks, and makeshift water collection create a slip-and-fall nightmare for both customers and staff. There are no restrooms available in a public-facing store. That is not only inhumane, but almost certainly a violation of health, labor, and sanitation codes. To make matters worse, there are no fitting rooms, so trying on clothing already a challenge in this decrepit environment, is completely out of the question. The entire store feels like it’s on the verge of collapse, both literally and operationally. According to an employee I spoke with, management is either completely oblivious to these conditions or simply doesn’t care. Either way, it’s clear that the people running this location have no regard for basic safety, human dignity, or customer experience. This building should be inspected immediately for building code violations, health hazards, and ADA compliance issues. It is unfit for operation in its current condition and should be considered a legal and financial liability for anyone affiliated with it. Of course, this store is located in a Black and Brown community and employs primarily Black and Brown workers, a detail that cannot be ignored. The systemic neglect and disrepair allowed to continue here speaks volumes about the priorities of those in charge. Frankly, the State of Delaware should seriously reconsider any partnership or affiliation with this organization. By sending clients here, the state is putting vulnerable individuals at risk and indirectly endorsing an environment that is not only unpleasant but actively hazardous. This isn’t just a bad shopping experience, it’s a disgraceful example of corporate neglect, racial inequity, and managerial failure that needs to be addressed before someone gets...
Read moreIt's been a really long time since I've been here. However, one of my kids are in school uniforms this year. I've been looking all over for navy blue hoodies and polos in 2XL for a while and couldn't find any. I stopped here as a last resort but the racks only had XL and smaller. An older gentleman in glasses that saw me Frantically looking assisted me. After he also looked thru the racks and didn't see an XL,I thanked him and began to walk away defeated. He asked me to wait one minute, so I did and a little while later he emerged with a blue hoodie!!!!!! I was Ecstatic!!!! My search was over! I Wish I'd gotten his name because he didn't have to go out of his way to help a mom in need but he did!
However, apparently you can't have a Great experience without having a bad one too! After such great customer service, I get to the register and the cashier first off is having a Full blown personal conversation with the woman ahead of me. I'm not in a rush so I patiently wait my turn. As they're exchanging numbers the cashier is waving for me to come up, still not ringing me up just talking. When she finally grabs my hoodie she's annoyed that it doesn't have a tag saying she can't ring it up. I told her I needed it so I sent my son to get one like it as she stood there complaining about people coming to the register with items with no tag as if that's my job. We handed her the same hoodie, she rung it up and I began to hand her $10 cash. By now, there's a line forming behind me, there was no line before. She looks at the cash and loudly explains PLEASE HAVE EXACT CASH IF YOU ARE USING CASH, WE CANNOT GIVE OUT CHANGE! Thankfully I had my card also but that was Extremely Rude to just shout it out like that.
Had to take a star off for that. Otherwise, a pleasant experience and great place to pick up last minute uniforms for the...
Read moreHorrible experience. The selections was bad they children section sucks it's November and they barely had anything for kids. They only had 1 cashier with the line long as heck going all the way in the lanes where ppl need to shop blocking clothes the door and a comfortable experience. They had employees just standing around talking up by the registers and no manager around that I seen and no one looked like they cared the line was super long. It's a Saturday afternoon and 1 register. It looked like Walmart. The customer service person was taking ppl. What i don't understand is how you have 2 ppl only with a extra long line and not do anything about it. This was my first and last time shopping there. Back in the 90s I shopped here when they had the other building and i was a child but as an adult shopping for my child this is not the it, I didn't find much of anything. I would suggest to use your registers and have ppl who are not doing anything at least help get the line down then go back up doing nothing. The lady was nice at the register too. It sucks that when you try to support your own community and shop within you get the worse experience. Not recommending this...
