Visited the Future Legends complex for the first time for a USL W League game. It was great to be able to see the game and support the people I was there for.
However, the overall experience with the venue was terrible. Firstly, you get there, and the entire complex has temporary fencing set up and looks like a construction project and/or abandoned. There is trash everywhere. We were walking up and were told by multiple people they were turned away for not being able to bring something in from metal water bottles to a small purse. We left what we were told in our vehicle and proceeded to ticketing where waited 15 minutes with two people working. Their system was slow, and unfortunately staff didn't explain things well. Was supporting the visiting team and they asked where would like to sit, so I responded by saying the area for the guest team. The staff didn't know how to respond to that and went on explaining their seating assignments, which I don't understand assigned seating for this type of game. Settled on a $5 ticket which is about the only positive for being a cheap ticket.
We proceeded to security where there were gentlemen with metal wand detectors screening everybody. Get up to them and they start looking through the clear bag I had, and I was turned away for having some sealed snacks/candy and store-bought sandwiches. They informed us of no outside food or drink. My group exits, eat our food, and head back in. I ask what is with the strict security when multiple other venues throughout the state can bring in a variety of food (obviously depending on which stadium/venue you are at, and understand some you can't). They said the tight security puts them at the same security levels and procedures as other high-end venues in the state. I found this interesting as I wouldn't classify this venue high end at all when there is trash, construction fencing, and abandoned buildings on site. One last note on this is that they were even screening a 2-3 year old girl right ahead of us.
Got to our seats and the soccer game is being played on the baseball field which is fine, but the overall seating was terrible. As to another reason this isn't a high end facility the stadium isn't even finished as they have temporary fencing with terrible netting along the foul lines which making watching a soccer game hard to watch. Their bleachers while fine, are not pushed together and have gaps in between the different sections, unfortunately, didn't take a picture of this.
Tried to give the complex benefit of the doubt on the security policies as didn't do any research ahead time. When looking at the website there is no mention of any policies and procedures. The only sign they have around the complex is a small 8x11 metal sign on one of the temporary fences as you are walking in. If they want to be that strict with security, fine, but need to do a better job of posting it so people can come better prepared.
The idea and vision of this complex is great, but from doing some research and hearing from people the complex has run into a lot of problems and that is putting it mildly, as there is a couple of lawsuits that popup when doing quick searches.
I hope this complex is able to figure it out, get everything built, and complete their vision. It would be a great venue for sports in Northern Colorado. Until that time though, there are things that they could immediately address to improve the...
Read moreWent to Future Legends park for the first time last night to watch the Windsor Owlz baseball team play. In sum, I see a very bright future for this complex. Everyone we interacted with from security to box office to concessions to in-crowd personalities were cheerful and helpful. Everyone there seems to be working very hard to grow this experience. The players played hard and put on quite a show, winning 24-4. The stadium and surrounding area are under construction. We had no issues with this and look forward to the future there for many different sport venues. We did not have reason to visit the MASSIVE dome, but were intrigued to find that many community sporting activities are offered there. To balance this review, just a few things: The stadium is a bit far from the interstate and to take the most direct route goes through downtown Windsor, which can be a very slow crawl. I would suggest utilizing alternate routes to get east then head south/north to the park via Hwy 257. The opportunity to attend this event came from a friend who lives in Windsor. I live a short distance (
Read moreIt's with sad disappointment that I write this. Went to a couple Owlz games here. I love baseball. I love minor league baseball. I once lived in Colorado Springs and loved going to many Sky Sox games. So even though it's a Single-A team, to say I was excited is an understatement. Thoughts of season tickets danced around in my mind. This place is pretty terrible at the moment. I've been to better high school fields. I truly hope I can update this review to be more positive at some point. I'll give it another shot eventually.
Anyway, the biggest problems: the backstop is the thickest brightest galvanized steel imaginable. And with additional rows of support pipes right in front of what should be the best seats at field level. It blocks your view. How am I supposed to enjoy the game if I can't watch the game? For now the outfield seats are better for this reason as they have netting along the field side instead. And cost less. Concessions are severely overpriced. Something like $12 or $14 for a can of beer? I forget how much specifically. But for real? Their limitations on bags, size of bags, size of umbrellas and the like is simply obnoxious. Do the security thing, but come on... this isn't the majors: you need to seriously change some things and cater toward a relaxed, family friendly atmosphere if you expect this to work long term. Relax some of the limitations. Figure out what a reasonable (overpriced) beer should sell for (and here's a hint... they're $3 in Coors Field... no I don't expect you to be able to work a comparable deal, but $12 or more is stupid). Why would I do this? I can drive to Denver and it's worth it. Owlz, you guys are great. The game is fun, the quirky interviews with players are fun. The gimmicky handouts of kazoos and stuff like that is great. It's genuine minor league baseball stuff I love. This venue... It's gonna kill...
