The Computer Place — Local services in Winston-Salem

Was referred to this business. My son is building his first desktop computer and was looking for a Mini Wireless Adapter to use to connect to the internet. He purchased the adapter after consulting with the gentleman at the business and advised him he was building a desktop computer.

Well my son is still learning about computers, thus his reasoning for going in person and asking someone with knowledge.

He is told they have a Mini Adapter. My son believes, well this is what's shown to him by a person who knows computers, thus it will work.

Upon completion of the build on the same night as the purchase, he runs a test with the help of a friend. The mini adapter tested at a download rate of 1 Megabit and and upload rate if .9.

He was told by me to call today to at least exchange it for a faster one. He was told by the same person that's the fastest he had and there are no returns or exchanges. I would understand if he can went in and picked the part up and bought it without consulting someone, that would be on him.

Either way my point is, when helping people decide what to get, make sure you give them the proper guidance. I mean he did say he was building a brand new computer.

So my son learned a lesson, at least make sure you can return or exchange an item from hence you buy from. Now he is out of around $19.00.

P.S. Mr. Store owner, I never said he was a young child and you are correct he is very very polite. Sometimes his being very polite can also be a curse, being that he can be taken advantage of.

Rarely ever do I leave a google review for a business unless I have an amazing experience, but I have visited this store at least twice and each time has been a terrible experience(the last was with the blonde woman who I’m assuming is the wife of the owner). This time I decided to give them another chance as they are conveniently located to me and open after my work hours. I was already dreading going due to the last negative experience I had here. I was on the way, but called ahead to make sure the postal side would still be open and I spoke to a man who would not tell me if they were open or closed. He told me all of my postal service inquiries needed to go through a separate party and to call another number... all I needed to know is if they were open and they’re literally in the same store/worked by the same husband and wife staff members. He would not tell me, so I hung up and decided to go anyway in person since I was up the street. I get to the store and am asked how they can “help” me. I had a bag with 4 things in it needing to be mailed today, and the man says “sorry the postal side closed at 5:30”. The same man that could have let me know this over the phone when it is advertised on google that they are open until 6. They probably just didn’t feel like dealing with me since it was 15 minutes before close. Once again I never complain, never leave bad reviews for business... I work for a small business and know how negatively poor reviews can effect a business. The customer service at this place is like nothing I’ve ever witnessed, and I will...

I have been dealing with computer place for years seems like since the 90s. Which is why I'm so sad to say I just bought a laptop from them it was supposed to be a top-notch laptop Lenovo with a very fast processor less than a year ago the hard drive just recently crashed and they couldn't do anything for me. She tells me they only have a 30-day warranty I have a lot of things on this laptop and important information and the laptop just crashes and she's telling me there's nothing they can do about it. She looks at the computer and gives us a verbal diagnosis, then turns around and says i already diagnosed it for you but diagnosis is $40.🤔 So now I'm lost with information gone. I paid almost $400 for this computer. I will never buy another one of their trash refurbished computers again. So it safe to say if you plan on keeping a computer for awhile, this is not the place to purchase. Now if you want a cheap throw away computer/laptop for your kids to learn on, this is the perfect place! Brand new for me from now on!!!!!
