Went to the Woodstock Fair for the first time today and it is definitely one of the better fairs in this part of the state. I would not go for the rides, as they are significantly more expensive than other fairs. The same amount of $$ that would usually get you on three or four rides at a competing fair gets you on one here. Perhaps on a wristband day it may be a better deal, but they were not being offered the day we were there.
In my opinion, it was worth going for the shows alone. There were many shows going on; something for everyone. My kids in particular enjoyed the hypnotist/magician and the wolf show.
As for food, there are PLENTY of choices. For those complaining that it is expensive -- certain stands are. Personally, I found them on par with any other similar fair when it comes to price. Cheaper prices are available IF you are willing to look for them. Many stands were selling bottled water for $3/$4, but BSA was selling the same bottles or $1. Church of Woodstock had (delicious!) pulled pork sandwiches for $4 CHEAPER than the stand dedicated to it. If you support the local churches, charities, and things like BoyScouts/GirlScouts, you will save money AND help your community.
This is one of the few fairs I can comfortably spend a whole day in instead of just a couple of hours. It is a fairly large fair with a lot to do for those...
Read moreThe Woodstock CT Fair is great place to spend the day. For a small town it's a very big fair. There is numerous places to eat and drink. You can get everything from a breakfast sandwich to American and ethnic dinners. You can get specialty coffees to fruit smoothies to drink. Also you can get almost anything fried you can imagine; fried pickles, fried PBJ sandwich, fried Oreos, several different kinds of fried candy bars, etc. They are numerous vendors selling everything from clothes to wall hangings to tools and everything in between. Then there are the numerous barns with farm animals including new born ones and even the possibility of a new one being born. We especially liked the world famous Frisbee dogs, what a great show they put on. Speaking of shows, we heard some good entertainment on the two stages there. See their website for a list of the entertainers as they have several big names appearing there. There are plenty of restrooms scattered throughout the area. There were also tables and benches to sit at and many of them were covered. They do charge for parking and there is an admission charge. Depending on how busy they are, you may have to walk a little ways to get into the fair from the...
Read moreThe biggest issue that we encountered while enjoying the fair was the change to the location of the Main Stage , due to this change not enough permanent seating was in place for those fair goers to enjoy the shows, unless you go and sit and hr prior to a show .
Because we like to enjoy the grounds we don't carry portable chairs to sit in. Let alone it wasn't covered at all to shade or protect if it should of rained.
There was bleachers there ...but clearly not enough to accommodate the crowds.
So we stood and watched some of a show. Which because walking around for 4 hrs prior to that show became tiresome, it wasn't that enjoyable because unable to sit & relax to enjoy .
For 30 plus years of going to this fair the room and seating was very adequate where the main stage was prior to moving it. And it's covered seating (wooden bleachers) were a nice addition over these years , to get out of the sun or elements should it have rained.
Very disappointed with this recent change for sure !!! Just my 2 cents as they say but I hope I'm not the only one who voices their...
