The Big Ned Kelly statue is nearby - so this place is hard to miss. Buy your tix at the counter - $12 adult, $10 concession & $2 for school kids. Much less for larger groups. Free timed parking in front & along the road. It was less busy post school holiday on a sweltering Friday two weeks ago.
Small privately owned & run "museum" with both original & replicated items, static photographic & Blacksmith displays & historic memorabilia from our most famous Outlaw & colonial past. By the time we got to Beechworth, the oft repeated replica of Ned Kelly's armour became embedded in my psyche!
Copious amount of exhibits to read & view in a small space if you want to do it properly. Not all on display relates to Edward "Ned" Kelly but does give a vivid picture of the colonial provincial landscape. Glenrowan was Kelly's last stand before capture at the ripe old age of 26. You can cover it all under one hour & it is worth the entry fee.
We had the owner (I think) give us a brief walk through spiel which was a good intro. Kate's Cottage (replica) is supposed be an authentic peek into the outlaw's home growing up but I found this rather too abundantly kitted out - even food items looked plentiful for Ned Kelly's impoverished & dirt poor origins. The bed & cot looked too big & modern for the colonial period (have visited heaps of heritage period homes in both Melb & Victoria to discern). Donated items by relatives are indicated. Exterior however does look true to the lore. The so called talking duo Cockatoos looked sorry & listless in the metal cages.
Something did seem out of place & incongruous upon entry - retail items in plain sight included Golliwogs & rather suggestive feminine dolls. Exactly what the owners are trying to put out there is out of place & unwarranted in our enlightened era. Ned Kelly's story is tragic but so was the treatment of indigenous people & early non-white migrants who contributed to the country we take pride in & project on the global stage.

The Ned Kelly Kate's Cottage Memorial Museum is truly an amazing experience!
You can find this packed to the rafters museum at 35 Gladstone St Glenrowan Victoria...
I will start with a big thank you to the owners of this wonderful establishment (Doug & Michelle)🙏 for the respect they had shown us and for taking on the challenge to preserve Australia's historical bushranger Edward Kelly and the Kelly family story!
If you have the love of knowing about (Edward/Ned Kelly's) life in the mid to late 1800s, which was very short life of Ned's along with the Kelly family history, this is truly the place to start!
The Kelly Memorial Museum is packed with some true historical information about the Kelly family along with the police that were involved and more!
There is a great replica of the original Kate Kelly ramshackle hut (Neds sister), and while you are there, say hello to Howard and Dorothy, Howard is likely older than most people who read my post!
(If only he could talk!)
Along with great merchandise to buy, there is something to cater to every budget from the Kelly museum, which your money will help with the upkeep of the historic Kelly family story!
I am a pensioner with limited income, and I was very pleased to see the pricing of their merchandise as it allowed me to come home with a bag of goodies next time it will be a truck load! I've seen cards, soap & T Shirt cost more at woollies (Woolworths)
Doug and Michelle, they will put you on the path (map) to the storyline around the town of Glenrowan that makes your life easier for you to enjoy the historic story of Ned's along with the scenic views of this beautiful little town!
We were lucky enough to get the chance to meet and listen to Lazy Harry sing the old Bush Ballads.
Take a big SD memory card, I had taken 433 photos alone between the Museum & the Ned Kelly storyline!
Doug and Michelle, again, we thank you for your time!

Can’t say enough good things about this place! I really look forward to returning, you could never have enough time to spot all the amazing treasures in the collection here. If you are into Victorian/19th century culture, history and vintage items, you will be so pleased to look at all the amazing things on display here. This is only a few minutes off the Hume so well worth stopping off even if you are just passing through.
As far as covering Victorian and convict history, wow, This place has you covered, even if you’re not that into the Ned Kelly story, you would find so many things of interest here. They have so many authentic items that actually belonged to the Kelly family (and Ned Kelly’s mums family the Quinn’s), as well as just a stunning collection of 19th century items from the surrounding areas. The replica home of the Kelly homestead is incredibly authentic, it actually feels so real, set out with precise attention to detail, containing so many authentic Kelly furniture items and decor pieces including a fence built by Ned’s brother. The Owners here were absolutely lovely, very accomodating and I am grateful for their kindness thankyou again. Once you walk in, laidback and friendly vibes all round, atmospheric music, fantastic array of gifts available at very reasonable prices. I visited with my son and my son just fell in love with the resident cat who is just so friendly, that made our trip!

The Ned Kelly Museum & Homestead in Australia offers a fascinating glimpse into one of the country’s most iconic and controversial historical figures. Visiting the site feels like stepping back in time, with well-preserved artifacts, detailed exhibits, and immersive storytelling that brings Ned Kelly’s life and the era he lived in vividly to life. The homestead, surrounded by rustic charm, gives insight into the daily life of the Kelly family, while the museum showcases key moments from Ned’s bushranger days, including his famous suit of armour. The staff are knowledgeable and passionate, adding depth to the experience through engaging stories and historical context. Whether you’re a history buff or just curious about Australian folklore, the museum offers a unique and memorable experience that captures the complexity of Ned Kelly’s legacy. It’s a must-visit destination for anyone looking to explore Australia’s wild colonial past and the myths that still surround it today.

Absolutely fantastic 👏 👌 6 Star!!!
Do yourself a favour, take yourself back in time for an authentic Australian historical experience. The owners are passionate and extremely knowledgeable, as is Tony, the tourguide. The front of the building offers an excellent variety of souvenirs. Pay a small fee and go through an inner door to the world of Ned Kelly and Clan. This is by far the best tourist attraction at Glenrowan, so make sure you have time to soak it all in. You'll walk through a replica of Kate's Cottage....including items which belonged to both the Kelly family and police force of the era. The photographic account of the infamous seized is by far, second to none. Parking at the front door or turn the corner to view the outstanding mural. You will not be disappointed. We'll be back for more! School excursions and tour coaches also visit. Charge your mobiles...because owner Doug and his lovely wife encourage taking videos and photos.

The Big Ned Kelly was an awesome and big statue!
The statue stands in front of a coffee shop selling coffee beans, ice cream and sugar candy. The whole town is very quaint with lots of buildings to visit and explore. There's a museum with lots of memorabilia and replica of Ned Kelly's homestead that you can check out for a small fee ($12 for adults, $2 for kids). There's also a shop selling fancy gourmet goods and local alcohol. There's an animatronics museum with various smoke effects etc. We crossed the bridge over to the area marked where Ned Kelly was shot and captured. Everything is well marked with interesting facts about what took place at the time.

The town is a fun little stop off on your way up to Canberra from Melbourne or vice versa. There isn't that much to see here so I wouldn't go too out of your way to see it but I enjoyed viewing the statue and visiting the little quirky local stores.
There were multiple shops in town that had signs out front indicating the best coffee in town, as we were walking past one of them I heard hurried footsteps behind us and one of the employees was racing back from a different shop with a takeaway coffee haha
We visited during the off season but I imagine this place would get crazy during the school holidays with everyone stopping off on their interstate travels.

You certainly know where you are when you see The Big Ned Kelly in Glenrowan.
And judging by the amount of caravans parks up there it’s certainly a popular stop off point.
Of course, Ned Kelly is actually an important part of Australian history and folklore that has helped to cement the Australian culture. Yes, a criminal, but loved at the same time as a lariken who was for the people against the establishment.
It’s great that the local community keeps the town thriving.
The tourist info area needs to be free, it feels very wrong to charge an entry free. It’s better to ask for a donation.

It's a beautiful little town! The markers around the significant events of the big rundown paint the entire story vividly in from of your eyes.
Following the markers feels like a bit of a scavenger hunt to piece the story together.
The day I was following the Ned Kelly trail from Giralderi, NSW to Glen Rowan, Maryborough VIC it was very very windy making the whole visit very dramatic!
The little museums are lovely and the locals know so much about the story. Each will have a differing view all you need is ask the question "The great Ned Kelly - hero or villain?".

In a country full of “Big Things”, giant novelty statues with a site-specific theme, it’s only right that Glenrowan should have a big Ned.
This is in fact the town’s third big Ned, which might have something to do with Kelly’s controversial status as a folk hero.
The first Big Ned Kelly Statue was pulled down and dumped in the river.
The statue here today, showing Kelly in his armour with gun in hand, was produced by a Sydney-based artist in 1992 and transported in one piece by road.
Made from fibreglass, the piece stands six metres tall and weighs 1.5 tons.

We come here often as a family and will continue to do so for many years. The drive out is always spectacular with gorgeous views and immaculate gardens. The antipasto platters and pizzas are always amazing and the wine is fantastic. Although I do miss the fronti! However the Moscato and Topaque were delightful. The kids always have fun in the little designated play area and the staff are always lovely. Such a beautiful, relaxed and easy winery to visit. I would recommend booking because it has limited tables.

I've been visiting this winery since the 80's as I am addicted to their fortified wines. As one would expect the staff in their tasting room are knowledgeable and mighty friendly. On this visit we left with some Winemakers Selection Rare Old Muscat, 2019 Small Batch Organic Rosé and 2019 Organic Fiano. This is a destination winery as it is well of the beaten track but it is definitely worth the effort to visit this winery that have been making fine wines since 1870.

A lovely winery near Glenrowan. So much history at the winery. It was established in 1870. All fruit for wines is grown on site. Lovely old cellar door with a small museum inside. Had a lovely tasting. We ended up buying Fiano, Rose and the Classic Topaque. Nothing wrong with the Reds, we are just getting low on Whites. Definitely recommend. We had a great time tasting most of range of wines inside the beautiful cellar door, guided by the wonderful Janet.
Then we went outside for lunch in the sunny courtyard, where we enjoyed delicious pizzas and a shared platter.
We will be back!!!

Lovely relaxing atmosphere, child friendly with a play area.
Friendly, knowledgable staff...the young girl today reeled off desserts with no hesitation.
Then there's the delicious food and full flavoured wine, my favourite in the region.
