📍 ​​Des Plaines River Trail​​ Lake County, IL (Multiple access points) Finally cracked open my ​​"60 Hikes Within 60 Miles"​​ book—and this ​​flat, shady riverside trail​​ was the perfect starter! ​​🌞 Trail Highlights​​ ​​15km round-trip​​ (we did ​​Independence Grove section​​). ​​1/3 sunny, 2/3 shaded​​—bring sunscreen + hat! ​​Flooded boardwalk?​​ Detour signs make it easy to navigate. ​​🐾 Wildlife Encounters​​ 🕷️ ​​Camera-Shy Spider​​: Posed for pics then scared me when it ​​turned to stare​​. 😱 ⚠️ ​​TICK ALERT​​: Spotted a ​​giant red tick​​ on my dog—check everyone post-hike! ​​🔥 Hot Tips​​ ​​Go early/late​​: 5PM was still oven-hot in July. ​​Dog-friendly​​: Our ​​chihuahua​​ loved the smells (but ​​watch for ticks​​!). #ChicagoHikes #EasyTrails #DogFriendly #NatureWalks #MidwestAdventures
