Ottawa's Peruvian Cuisine | Raphaël - A Major Letdown 😵
With a 4.6 Google rating, we thought this place was a safe bet... boy, were we wrong! The menu was confusing (seriously, who names dishes like this?), so we played it safe with 2 small plates, 1 main, and a drink. 🍹 Chicha Morada (Purple Corn Drink) Supposedly made from purple corn, but zero corn flavor—just a weird mix of cinnamon + bayberry? Not terrible, but not what we expected. 🍲 "Complimentary" Appetizer Soup (Pic #4) A super fishy, overly salty seafood broth that made us instantly regret coming. If this was their "welcome," we were in trouble... 🐙 Pulpo al Olivo (Pic #1) Sliced octopus drowned in salty sauce. The texture was okay, but why did it taste like the ocean threw up on our plate? 🥩 Anticuchos (Pic #3 - Beef Skewers) The only decent dish—tender steak with a nice char, served with weirdly sweet potatoes (yes, we double-checked—they were potatoes!). But the brussels sprouts? Greasy AF. Like, "street vendor deep-fried cabbage" level of oil. 🍚 Arroz con Conchas (Pic #2 - Seafood Rice) Scallops were soft and sweet (the highlight), but the bacon was rubbery, and the rice was overpowered by shrimp flavor + a salt bomb. Mushrooms, carrots, and zucchini couldn’t save it. 🍮 "Complimentary" Dessert (Pic #5) A sad attempt to mask the salt overload. Peruvian cuisine is about seafood, potatoes, and corn—not French-Peruvian fusion gone wrong. Final Verdict: If you love paying to drink seawater, this is your spot. Otherwise, hard pass. 📍 Raphaël #OttawaEats #PeruvianFood #FoodFail #OttawaFoodie #WorstDiningExperience #Overpriced #SaltyAF #NeverAgain #OttawaRestaurants #DisappointingDining
