♡‧˚ A Smooth Guide to Solo Female Travel in Chicago ♡‧˚
Let’s start with safety—the top concern for solo female travelers: 🏠 I recommend staying in the Loop. The area is generally safe, and most attractions are secure during the day. Walking alone to the Chicago Theatre at night, you might encounter some unhoused individuals, but they weren’t aggressive in my experience. 🚗 For longer distances, I suggest taking a ride-share. Chicago rides are pretty affordable (especially coming from a tearful NYC student 😭). Day 1 ❶ The Art Institute of Chicago 🎨 Book tickets in advance! Most famous paintings are on the second floor. Allow at least 2+ hours—it’s breathtaking. Monet’s works are divine, and the contemporary section is full of fascinating pieces! ⏰ Closes at 5 PM. ❷ Millennium Park 🤍 Right next to the museum. Visit the fountains and the iconic “Bean” (Cloud Gate)—super easy to find! ❸ Chicago Riverwalk 🚶 A lovely stroll from the park—especially beautiful on sunny days. The skyscrapers give a totally different vibe than NYC! ❹ World’s Largest Starbucks ☕️ On the way from the Riverwalk! Lots of exclusive merch and mugs. The first floor is mostly grab-and-go; head upstairs to order. ❺ 360 Chicago 🌃 9-minute walk from Starbucks. Book ahead! Time your visit around sunset—the view is magical. Sadly, no outdoor photo spots, but you can chill at the cloud bar. Arrive early for seats! Day 2 ❶ Wicker Park 👣 A street full of vintage stores and cute shops! Start at Seoul Taco and explore from there. Great coffee spots—highly recommend Philz Coffee ☕, and they have public restrooms! The matcha strawberry milk at Foxtrot Market is also delicious. ❷ Hamburger University 🍟 Near the Mediterranean restaurant Aba—check it out if you’re in the area, but not worth a special trip. Global menu items rotate, so you might not find what you expect! ❸ Chicago Theatre 🧡 Most stunning at night! Located in the Loop—felt safe as a solo traveler. Had to ask strangers for photos, but everyone was friendly! Day 3 ❶ Andersonville 🧸 Check my previous post for a detailed guide to the cute stores here! A super chill neighborhood—perfect if you’re not super into aquariums or zoos. Highly recommend wandering around!
