【Food Diary】Chicago Gibsons Italia 🍽️🌉
A restaurant that serves Italian cuisine like the recently mentioned Topo Gigio, but with a completely different style. Gibsons has several locations in Chicago, including one that surprisingly offers frog legs—a rarity for American spots. This location is arguably the nicest and feels the most upscale. Perched where Chicago’s three rivers meet, it offers a full city and river view 🏙️💧. Perfect for couples celebrating a special occasion—my wife and I spent one Valentine’s Day here. We’ve visited twice, both for lunch. Here are some dishes we’ve tried: 🐮 Chicago Cut – When in Chicago, you gotta try the Chicago Cut! It’s basically a ribeye. The menu says it’s grain-fed, dry-aged for at least 45 days. At this price point and quality, it’s hard to go wrong. 🍛 7-Year Aged Acquerello Risotto – Scallop risotto. Honestly, my wife and I didn’t fully understand the name at first—what’s Acquerello? What’s aged 7 years? We just saw "scallop risotto" in the description and ordered. Later learned it’s a type of aged Italian rice. Thankfully, it was a hit—creamy, flavorful risotto with perfectly seared scallops. 🍝 Saffron Linguine & King Crab – Made with white wine saffron sauce, though I don’t recall tasting much saffron. Simple preparation, premium ingredients—a safe and delicious combo. Tasty, but we saved most of our stomach space for the steak and risotto that day. 🐙 Charred Octopus – My wife loves octopus, and you can usually trust a popular restaurant’s version. Only one tentacle for the price, but it was grilled to a nice chew and served with a tasty, complex sauce. I’d definitely recommend this spot for couples on a special anniversary or celebration—great views, food, and service. Dinner seems harder to book, but lunch is more accessible. For regular days, though, maybe stick to more affordable steak and pasta spots—no need to splurge here every time. 📍 Gibsons Italia 🕒 Been twice #Chicago #ChicagoEats #ChicagoLife #Couples #FoodDiary #RelationshipGoals #BabyFoodie
