๐ถ๏ธ Madison Chinese Food Guide โ Hits & Misses!
Hereโs a roundup of my experiences with Chinese restaurants in Madison โ some gems, someโฆ not so much ๐ ๐ Taste of Sichuan Probably the most famous Sichuan spot in town. โ Must-orders: Coupleโs Beef Offal, Farmhouse Stir-Fried Pork, and the Braised Pork Hock (so tender!). โ Avoid: Stir-Fried Pork Kidney โ way too gamey ๐ฅฒ ๐ Fugu Another Sichuan option, but I prefer Taste of Sichuan. ๐ถ๏ธ Tried the Mao Xue Wang and Boiled Beef โ looked authentic but tasted like they came from the same pot. Not bad, but not memorable. ๐ Double 10 โ Go here for Northeastern Chinese dishes + hotpot! Their Guo Bao Rou (sweet & sour pork) is Liaoning-style (tomato-based) โ so good! โ Braised Pork Bones โ super authentic. Highly recommend! ๐ Hutong ๐ข Their Lamb Skewers are delicious but a bit pricey. ๐ค I was arguing the whole time I was here, so I donโt remember anything elseโฆ except the sadness lol. Still managed to take pics though ๐ธ ๐ Hotpot 608 ๐ฒ All-you-can-eat hotpot โ ingredients are just okay. โ But their Braised Pig Trotters (ร la carte) are amazing! I devoured 4 and had no room for hotpot ๐ ๐ Nani ๐ฅข Cantonese dim sum spot. โ Beef Chow Fun is decent. โ Avoid the cylindrical cheung fun (weird texture). ๐ฐ They have durian crepes โ if youโre into that! ๐ Dagu Rice Noodle ๐ฅ Big miss. โ The beef slices were frozen for what felt like 1000 years โ tough, thick, and impossible to chew. โ The popcorn chicken was okay, and DIY rice noodle cooking was funโฆ but not worth it. ๐ QQ Express ๐ Cheap, generous portions of American Chinese food. ๐คค I unironically LOVE their Peanut Butter Chickenโฆ donโt judge me! ๐ Global Market Food Court ๐ Inside the Global Market Asian grocery store โ a bit far from downtown, but great for Asian products! ๐ Their food court has malatang (spicy numbing soup) โ solid choice if youโre already there. Let me know your favorites โ or places to avoid! ๐ #Madison #MadisonFood #ChineseFood #UWMadison #FoodReview
