🌶️ Madison Chinese Food Guide – Hits & Misses!
Here’s a roundup of my experiences with Chinese restaurants in Madison – some gems, some… not so much 😅 📍 Taste of Sichuan Probably the most famous Sichuan spot in town. ✅ Must-orders: Couple’s Beef Offal, Farmhouse Stir-Fried Pork, and the Braised Pork Hock (so tender!). ❌ Avoid: Stir-Fried Pork Kidney – way too gamey 🥲 📍 Fugu Another Sichuan option, but I prefer Taste of Sichuan. 🌶️ Tried the Mao Xue Wang and Boiled Beef – looked authentic but tasted like they came from the same pot. Not bad, but not memorable. 📍 Double 10 ✅ Go here for Northeastern Chinese dishes + hotpot! Their Guo Bao Rou (sweet & sour pork) is Liaoning-style (tomato-based) – so good! ✅ Braised Pork Bones – super authentic. Highly recommend! 📍 Hutong 🍢 Their Lamb Skewers are delicious but a bit pricey. 😤 I was arguing the whole time I was here, so I don’t remember anything else… except the sadness lol. Still managed to take pics though 📸 📍 Hotpot 608 🍲 All-you-can-eat hotpot – ingredients are just okay. ✅ But their Braised Pig Trotters (à la carte) are amazing! I devoured 4 and had no room for hotpot 😂 📍 Nani 🥢 Cantonese dim sum spot. ✅ Beef Chow Fun is decent. ❌ Avoid the cylindrical cheung fun (weird texture). 🍰 They have durian crepes – if you’re into that! 📍 Dagu Rice Noodle 💥 Big miss. ❌ The beef slices were frozen for what felt like 1000 years – tough, thick, and impossible to chew. ✅ The popcorn chicken was okay, and DIY rice noodle cooking was fun… but not worth it. 📍 QQ Express 🍗 Cheap, generous portions of American Chinese food. 🤤 I unironically LOVE their Peanut Butter Chicken… don’t judge me! 📍 Global Market Food Court 🛒 Inside the Global Market Asian grocery store – a bit far from downtown, but great for Asian products! 🍜 Their food court has malatang (spicy numbing soup) – solid choice if you’re already there.
