🛣️ Route 66 · National Route 66 Museum
🚗 Introduction Route 66 was once the main thoroughfare to America’s West and is affectionately called the "Mother Road" by Americans 🇺🇸. It starts in Chicago, Illinois, cuts through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Arizona, and ends in Santa Monica (near Los Angeles) in California. It’s a symbol of Westward Expansion and road trip culture in the U.S. In Oklahoma, there are three spots to check in on Route 66: Elk City, Clinton, and Tulsa—and we chose Elk City’s museum! The road and ground markers are perfect for photos 📸, and after visiting, you’ll also get a clear picture of what daily life was like in this area back in the day. 🚗 Admission Fee $5 per person (it’s an all-access pass—super cost-effective 💰)! 🚗 Location 2717 W 3rd St, Elk City, OK 73644, United States The area is a bit remote—there’s only a KFC and a large supermarket nearby 🛒. It’s recommended to bring your own food and drinks; otherwise, you’ll run out of energy when you get tired! 🚗 Exhibits & Things to See The site is a comprehensive complex made up of 5 main museums, including: 1️⃣ Transportation Museum: Features exhibition areas, a theater, and a souvenir shop 🎁. 2️⃣ Route 66 Museum: Displays vintage cars 🚗, license plates, and relics from road-side services (like old gas stations or diners). 3️⃣ Old Town Museum: Houses retro artifacts, items from Oklahoma’s Western life, Native American exhibits 🪶, and rodeo memorabilia 🤠. 4️⃣ Farm and Ranch Museum: Shows vintage agricultural equipment used in western Oklahoma 🚜. 5️⃣ Blacksmith Museum: Teaches you how blacksmiths forged iron using hammers, bending tools, and cutters 🔨. 6️⃣ Other Free Venues: Includes a historic pharmacy, schoolhouse, general store, church, and train station 🚂—all preserved to show the past! The place is huge ‼️ Just follow the map they give you ‼️ 🚗 Other Tips The staff are all kind grandmas—super warm and friendly 😊! It’s best to set aside a full day for your visit (half a day is too short to see everything). Use the restrooms inside the museums when you get the chance—once you leave, there aren’t many other options nearby 🚻. If you don’t feel like KFC, you can drive to a McDonald’s a bit farther away 🍟. #WheelsOfHistory #TravelSnippets #Route66 #Oklahoma #TravelDiary #Route66CheckIn #USRoute66 #HarleyDavidson #RoadTrip
