🇨🇦 Road Trip Across Canada 🇨🇦—Sudbury & Manitoulin Canada‘s Lar
🇨🇦 Road Trip Across Canada 🇨🇦—Sudbury & Manitoulin Canada‘s Largest Mural From a distance, it looks a bit messy, but it’s stunning in photos! This is the kind of graffiti worth a visit for 🎨~ It’s actually an abandoned hospital, and the exterior is entirely surrounded by iron fences 🔒. Big Nickel & Dynamic Earth The last stop in our quirky check-in series! A huge five-cent coin 🪙, right next to the museum~ Checking in alone is free. The museum is built on a real mine, focusing on geology and mining history. Unfortunately, it was closed the day we visited 😢, so we’ll have to come back another time! Onaping Falls: A.Y. Jackson Lookout The entrance is super hidden! It’s on a vacant lot by the highway, looking like a construction site 🚧—you could easily miss it. I’ve included a photo of the entrance, so friends planning to go should keep an eye out. You have to go up the dirt road to see the sign, then follow the trail to the waterfall~ It’s not very big; 20 minutes is enough to see the bridge and waterfall 💦. MANITOULIN ISLAND This time, we took a water route back to London~ We’ve driven through Algonquin too many times, so we unlocked a new route! From Sudbury, take the iron bridge to the island, then take a ferry from the south to Tobermory before driving back to London 🚢. As soon as you arrive on the island, you’ll see the visitor center—you can get a full view of the iron bridge from behind the building 🌉~ Cup and Saucer Nature Reserve: A very steep and challenging mountain top ⛰️! Even the flat paths are covered with stones. The view from the top didn’t feel worth the effort to me, but it’s a popular spot, so decide for yourself if you want to go~ Bridal Veil Falls: A stunning waterfall! We visited during the salmon run, and fish were leaping out of the water constantly 🐟—such a surprise~ From here onwards, there were lots of South Asian folks 👨👩. There’s a trail below the waterfall with a gentle slope, but the scenery is average—you can leave after seeing the waterfall! East Bluff Lookout: There are a few wooden boardwalk sections, but I found the scenery quite ordinary 🌿~ Providence Bay Beach: On the southern end of the island, many people come here to walk and take photos 📸. It’s perfect for swimming in summer, but in the off-season, many shops are closed and the wind is quite strong 🌬️~ Manitowaning: A photogenic old shipyard! Lots of people come to take pictures, so it’s best to visit during off-peak times 📸~ Ten mile point trail: There’s an observation deck with a bird’s-eye view of the island! It’s beautiful in autumn with fall foliage 🍁, and there’s an Indigenous gift shop to check out~ Elliott's Restaurant: Near Thanksgiving, not many restaurants on the island were open. Their whitefish was delicious with generous portions 🐟~ Even someone like me who doesn’t love "white people food" enjoyed it! It gets busy during meal times—you can get takeout if you don’t want to wait. #ManitoulinIsland#sudbury
