🇨🇦 Toronto Day Trip | Sudbury & North Bay

🇨🇦 Toronto Day Trip | Sudbury & North Bay We planned a road trip for the long weekend, heading to two major cities in northern Ontario: North Bay and Sudbury! 🚗 It’s about a 4-hour drive—cranking up the tunes and snacking along the way, perfect for a getaway. 📍 Dynamic Earth Mining Museum (Sudbury) Sudbury is a famous mining city in Canada, and most of the nickel used in Canadian coins comes from here 🪙. The underground miner tour at this mining museum is a must-do! 🪨 The museum is built on top of an abandoned mine, which was originally excavated for commercial purposes. Unfortunately, no ideal minerals were found later, so the museum bought the mine from the mining company and turned it into a museum. The underground tour lasts a little over an hour. The guide first takes visitors to the elevator that goes into the mine, descending about 30 meters vertically into the mine shaft ⬇️. Inside the mine, there are three areas simulating mining processes from the 18th century, 19th century, and the present day. It’s like a journey through time ⏳, letting you understand nearly 300 years of changes in the mining industry. Looking up at the dark rock walls around and above you at the bottom of the 30-meter-deep mine gives you an immersive feeling, as if you’ve experienced being a miner yourself. It also helps you appreciate the hardships of miners’ work and life—definitely the biggest surprise of our trip 😮. 📍 Abandoned Hospital Graffiti Building (Canada's Largest Mural) Highly recommended! This 20-meter-tall abandoned hospital is covered in graffiti, with a coordinated overall color scheme 🎨. Since it’s been abandoned for a long time, many windows are broken, and you can often see birds flying in and out 🕊️—it’s super photogenic. However, the entire building is sealed off, so you can only admire it from a distance. Every angle is a cool, edgy photo op 📸! 📍 North Bay Casino This casino isn’t large but is packed with people 🎰. There are a few table games available, though no Texas Hold’em. We watched friends play a couple of hands of Ultimate Texas Hold’em (a variation of poker) before leaving—fun to watch, even if we didn’t join in! 📍 North Bay Duchesnay Falls Even though it was early April, the trails were still covered in snow ❄️. After walking for five minutes, you could hear the sound of the waterfall, and after climbing a small slope, the falls came into view. Ice still covered most of the waterfall, but with rising temperatures, a small part had melted. Through the melted section, you could see the water rushing beneath the ice 💧. It was completely different from the summer scenery we’re used to—no vibrant colors or lush greenery, but instead a sense of gravity and solemnity. Standing quietly in front of the waterfall, you could almost feel the dynamic flow of time ⏳. 📍 Recollet Falls (30 minutes by car from North Bay on the way back) The entire trail was covered in snow or mud, making it very difficult to walk—definitely a bit of a hike! 🥾 But the scenery was worth it. The water reflected the blue of the sky 🌊, and both sides of the river were lined with green pine trees stretching as far as the eye could see 🌲. It felt like stepping out of a snow-covered forest and into a fairyland, like the peach blossom grove in tales 🌸. Pure magic! A road trip full of surprises—history, art, nature, and a little adventure. Northern Ontario, you’ve got our hearts ❤️! #Toronto#TorontoDayTrips
