🇫🇷 Marseille Guide // Two Days and One Night

For first-time visitors to Marseille, it’s recommended to set aside two days. Here’s our detailed itinerary 😀👉👉 Day 1: Vieux-Port + Boat Trip to Twin Islands + Marseille Old Town + Fort Saint-Jean + Marseille Cathedral + Notre-Dame de la Garde (Optional: Musée des Civilisations de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée (MuCEM) – €11 for adults, free for under 18s, €7.5 for 18–25s) After arriving at Marseille train station, you can walk 20 minutes or take the metro (3 minutes) to Vieux-Port (Old Port). As soon as you exit the metro, you’ll smell the rich scent of seafood. In the morning, there’s a lively fish market here. Nearby, you’ll find ticket offices for boats to Île d’If and Îles du Frioul – check the schedules to plan your trip.❤️ // Due to weather conditions, Île d’If may be closed if the wind and waves are too strong, but the other island (Îles du Frioul) is still well worth a visit. Larger than Île d’If, it’s perfect for hiking, with views of Château d’If in the distance. There are also some restaurants on the island, so plan to stay for at least 2–3 hours. Boats have free seating, but arriving early to queue lets you pick your favorite spot. Even standing by the railings is fun – the boat moves quickly, and with a bit of wind, it feels like a pirate ship ride 🌊🌊 From Vieux-Port, walk about 15 minutes along the harbor to Fort Saint-Jean. Climb up for a quick overlook of the Old Port and the Sacré-Cœur church on the opposite hill. Next door is MuCEM – worth a visit if you’re interested in history and culture. A 5-minute walk away is Marseille Cathedral. On your way back to the Old Port, take a detour through Le Panier (Old Town), passing by the Vieille Charité (Old Charity Hospital). This historic neighborhood has a unique vibe – wander aimlessly and soak it in 🌅 For Notre-Dame de la Garde, head in the other direction from Vieux-Port. It’s a 30-minute walk uphill, or you can take the small tourist train (tickets available at the Old Port). The hilltop offers panoramic views of the city and harbor.💕 Day 2: Calanques National Park 👐🙌 Choose between hiking or a boat tour to admire the fjord scenery. If taking a boat tour, check the timetable in advance – there are few departures. Options include 2-hour or 3-hour tours, with the latter covering more calanques. We opted for the 3-hour tour, which flew by and was well worth it. Tickets are available at the Old Port, near the island ferry ticket office.❤️ For hiking, take a bus to the starting point. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen. There are several routes to choose from – pick one that suits your fitness level. Safety Note 👇 Try to avoid going out at night. We stayed near the Old Port and took a short evening walk. We met a friendly Pakistani man who praised , calling us “their best brothers,” but he was holding a cup with marijuana. The smell of marijuana was strong near the port. Ps. Bouillabaisse is delicious – definitely give it a try 😽 If you want to see a Ferris wheel, head to Plage du Prado. #Marseille #SouthernFrance #France #Travel#MarseilleBouillabaisse #MichelinDining #SichuanCuisine
