🇬🇷 Quick Summary of Athens Trip
Compared to years ago, prices in Greece have risen quite a bit, especially for attraction tickets – at least €10 and up, with some not feeling very cost-effective. ☕ Coffee starts at around €4. The local Greek coffee (with grounds) wasn’t to my taste, but Freddo Espresso, Freddo Cappuccino, and Frappé were all delicious! 🍽️ A nice Greek meal costs around €20-25 per person. 🦞 At the harbour (likely in Paleo Faliro – went with friends, didn’t catch the name), we tried: Squid salad Octopus in olive oil Mussels with red sauce and cheese Fried sardines Seafood pasta All fresh and tasty! 🍖 KOYTOYKI's lamb chops were tender and not gamey. Their fried zucchini was a standout! 🍴 SYMPOSIO (creative cuisine in the old town): Beef tartare was great Squid ink risotto with cheese was rich and flavorful Dessert (The Apple – apple compote, mascarpone mousse, white chocolate) was just okay – not special compared to good dessert shops back home. 🍛 KITPO (homestyle place ~3-4km from old town): Huge portions and great value! Roast pork was so big we took half home – perfect with instant noodles the next day. 🥢 Tried Chinese food twice – aside from stir-fried greens, most dishes were disappointments. 🌯 Street eats like gyros, tiropita (cheese pie), Greek yogurt, ice cream, and loukoumades (like Chinese sweet puffs) are worth trying – though not mind-blowing if you’ve had similar abroad. 🚗 Uber is convenient and affordable for groups: ~€7-8 for 3-4km trips in the city ~€50 to the airport ☀️ UV rays are strong – sunscreen is a must! Better to buy locally (most are SPF50+). 🛍️ Shopping tip: Got Greek skincare at Hondos Center (downtown mall): Korres sleeping mask, body milk, lip balm Tax-free for purchases over €50 Surprisingly, Korres was more expensive than the mall (e.g., yogurt lip balm: €3.7 at Hondos vs. €5 at the boutique). Also check pharmacies for good deals! #Athens #TravelTips #GreekFood #Sunsafety #ShoppingSmart 🏛️🍴✨
