Monterey is a must-visit spot along Californiaโs Highway 1! ๐๐ ๐จ Stay: InterContinental ๐ 750 Cannery Row, Monterey Great location โ easy access to local shops ๐๏ธ, just a 3-minute walk to the aquarium, and right next to the Bubba Gump restaurant. Our room had a small balcony with a lovely view ๐๏ธ. The hotel provides two cups in the room, and you can get ice and water from the machine on each floor. โ๏ธ๐ง ๐ค Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. ๐ 720 Cannery Row, Monterey Apparently the very first Bubba Gump restaurant! Since it was so close to the hotel, we had to check it out. Packed with Forrest Gump memorabilia ๐โโ๏ธ๐ค, thereโs even a gift shop and the famous bench for photos. ๐ฆ Lt. Dan's Surf & Turf: Grilled shrimp, ribs, and fries. I loved the grilled shrimp โ no heavy sauces, just natural flavor. The rib sauce wasnโt really my thing. ๐ฆ Shrimper's Heaven: A mix of shrimp styles โ grilled, tempura, etc. โ served over fries. ๐ฏ Troya Turkish Delight & Baklava Sells Turkish pastries โ the guy working there was super friendly and chatted with us the whole time ๐ฃ๏ธ๐. We tried the rose-flavored pastry (min. $10). It was fragrant, not too sweet, sticky and a little chewy โ delicious! ๐ Monterey Bay Aquarium ๐๏ธ Tickets: $59.95 per person We booked online two days in advance. Highlights included a touch pool where you can gently stroke stingrays and other sea creatures โ surrounded by excited kids ๐โจ. The penguins and otters were also super popular! The aquarium also has outdoor areas with ocean views ๐. ๐ฒ 17-Mile Drive ๐ซ Entry: $11.75 per vehicle We entered through the Pacific Grove Gate (two lanes: left for residents, right for visitors โ we accidentally took the left but still paid and got the map ๐บ๏ธ). The map details all the scenic stops. We drove along the coast from stop 3 to 15 โ had to leave after 13 due to time. ๐ก Carmel-by-the-Sea A 20-minute drive ๐๐จ. This town is beautiful โ perfect for photos and boutique shopping ๐ธโค๏ธ.
