๐บ๐ธ Washington, D.C. โ The Best U.S. City for Solo Travel! ๐โจ
Washington, D.C. might just be the most solo-travel-friendly city in the United States! โ Public transportation is convenient โ Attractions are densely concentrated and mostly FREE โ Itโs one of the safest cities (thanks to Secret Service-level security ๐) โ I actually felt comfortable setting up my tripod for selfies here! In other cities, Iโd worry about my camera disappearing in a blink ๐. One interesting thing: Despite recreational cannabis being legal here (yes, there are even Chinese-language dispensaries ๐), compared to the aggressive homeless people, subway entertainers, immigrants, refugees, gang violence, and occasional gunfire โ smoking weed feels almost friendly and safe here. ๐ Practical Tips: 1๏ธโฃ Safest city in the U.S., hands down ๐ You can walk around at 11 PMโ12 AM, and there might be more police officers than tourists! 2๏ธโฃ Public transport is great, but attractions are so close that if you stay near downtown, you can easily explore on foot ๐ถโโ๏ธ. 3๏ธโฃ My favorite spot: The U.S. Capitol ๐๏ธ It looks amazing both day and night! Here are two photo locations I recommend: ๐ Union Square (Google Maps) โ Enter the park and walk to the lakeside. ๐ 3rd St & Pennsylvania Ave bus stop โ The crosswalk and bike lane here make for great shots. 4๏ธโฃ The White House is under renovation (as of Nov 24, 2024) ๐ง โ Not even the exterior is visible. Skip it for now! 5๏ธโฃ National Gallery of Art ๐ผ๏ธ โ FREE entry! Mostly modern art and currently featuring photography exhibitions. Highly recommended! 6๏ธโฃ Suggested route: Start at either the Washington Monument or the Capitol Building โ theyโre aligned horizontally with museums in between. Walk one way, and youโll cover most highlights in a day! 7๏ธโฃ Fun stop: FBI Headquarters ๐ต๏ธโ๏ธ โ Yes, the famous "FBI! Open the door!" building from movies. Great for a quirky photo op! 8๏ธโฃ Airport transportation: Just go to Metro Center Station โ direct trains to both airports ๐. A one-way trip costs only $4.50 (cheap compared to other cities!), and trains run until midnight! 9๏ธโฃ Note: The "Presidentโs Mountain" (Mount Rushmore) is NOT the same as "Capitol Hill." ๐ฟ Mount Rushmore is in the Midwest. โฐ๏ธ Capitol Hill refers to the U.S. Capitol, Senate, and Supreme Court โ right here in D.C.! #USA #WashingtonDC #SoloTravel #TravelTips #USATravel #DCAttractions #FreeMuseums #SafeTravel ๐๏ธ๐ธ
