🐳 Choosing a Whale Watching Company There are three main whale watching companies departing from Monterey. After comparing them, the biggest difference is the size of the boats. This time, we chose Discovery Whale Watch — a mid-sized vessel with very detailed commentary and educational insights. The crew taught us how to track whale movements and explained behaviors like a mother whale teaching her calf to hunt. It was both fun and informative! 🗣️🌊 🐳 Booking Tips 1️⃣ Although some guides say you can buy tickets on the spot, we booked ours about two weeks in advance online since the boat wasn’t very big. Plenty of slots were available! When booking, there are two options: Boat ticket only Boat ticket + motion sickness pills 💊 I brought my own seasickness medication, so I went with ticket only. 2️⃣ One day before the trip, you’ll receive a waiver and registration form to confirm attendance and review important notes. After filling it out, you’ll get a QR code — keep it for check-in! 📲✅ 🐳 Day of the Trip 1️⃣ The boat departs at 9 AM — arrive at the wharf 45 minutes early. 2️⃣ Show your QR code to get your physical ticket. Two boats depart around the same time — you’ll get either a blue or white ticket. 3️⃣ After getting your ticket, you can explore the area. This is a good time to take your seasickness pill if needed. 4️⃣ Before departure, the crew — including the captain, safety officer, and naturalist — will gather everyone to go over safety instructions. 5️⃣ Shortly after setting off, you’ll spot sea lions! 🦭 The guide explained how to tell sea lions from seals. Then the whale chasing begins! 6️⃣ After about an hour, some passengers started feeling sick — even those who don’t usually get seasick. If you’re unsure about your tolerance, better to take medication beforehand! 🌊😵 7️⃣ Dress warmly! It gets chilly once the boat picks up speed.
