๐บ๐ธ What to Do in Monterey with Kids โ A Quick Guide
(Not a full list โ feel free to add more in the comments! ๐) ๐ Monterey Bay Aquarium: Famous as the inspiration for Finding Nemo ๐ ๐ฌ. While well-known, it may not compare to some large aquariums in Asia. Opens at 10 AM โ gets crowded after noon. The on-site food is overpriced and average ๐ฅช๐. Still, worth a visit if youโve never been! Downtown Monterey is also nice for a stroll. ๐ฃ๏ธ Highway 1: Monterey is the starting point for the most scenic part of Californiaโs Highway 1 ๐. Consider staying overnight and starting early โ driving to Big Sur and back makes a perfect day trip. ๐ก Carmel-By-The-Sea: A picturesque village with cute restaurants and shops ๐ฝ๏ธ๐๏ธ. Many places require reservations. Surprisingly easy to park! ๐โจ This town is the heart of the Pebble Beach Concours dโElegance (usually in August, right before Bay Area schools start). ๐ฒ 17-Mile Drive: Actually a gated community โ you pay to enter (once per ticket ๐๏ธ). Features the famous Lone Cypress ๐ฒ and Pebble Beach Golf Links ๐๏ธ. The Lone Cypress is truly unique. Half a day is enough to see everything, but with kids, take your time โ hit the beaches ๐๏ธ (since re-entry isnโt allowed). Restrooms are limited โ available at Bird Rock and Pebble Beach Visitor Center. Plan accordingly! ๐ป ๐ Sunset Drive in Monterey: Like a โbudget versionโ of 17-Mile Drive โ great ocean views ๐, perfect for a relaxed beach day with kids. ๐ฅพ Point Lobos State Natural Reserve: Popular among locals for hiking trails ๐ฟ๐ โ peaceful and beautiful. There are more smaller spots โ too many to cover!
