3-Day 2-Night Trip to Marseille|Under the Sun, Everything is Just
After Antibes and Aix, the Marseille leg of the journey was refreshingly uncomplicated. Staying in Le Panier meant having the luxury of aimless exploration at every turn. 🌼 Day 1️⃣ Morning: Marseille Apartment Afternoon: Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde & Palais Longchamp After waking up, I wandered around the Old Port. Ferries were docked one after another, ready to set sail for Château d'If, the island made famous by Alexandre Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo. I found a charming bistro for brunch before heading to the Marseille apartment. 🥐 The Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde is visible from most parts of the city and even from miles out at sea. This magnificent Byzantine structure stands as the highest point in Marseille. Outside the church, there's an observation deck offering a sweeping view of Marseille and the nearby Mediterranean islands. It's truly a sight to behold! 🏰🌊 The half hour before sunset is Marseille's most beautiful golden hour. The central sculptures and fountains at Palais Longchamp are bathed in a warm, golden glow. In the middle of the sculptures is the river god, with two goddesses on either side holding grapes and wheat ears. On each side of the building, there's an extended corridor, and at the end of each corridor, there's a museum – the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Musée d'Histoire de Marseille. 🌅 Day 2️⃣ Shopping, Eating, and Drinking I lingered in various boulangeries, leaving with a few crusty, beautiful sourdough loaves. 🍞 Marseille has no shortage of vintage stores where one can hunt for treasures. For small items or souvenirs, I'd recommend the century-old grocery store Maison Empereur. Their wide array of soaps, candles, perfumes, and eco-friendly bags all exude a distinct Marseille charm. Sabre Paris is also a great place to find good deals. 🛍️ At the Galeries Lafayette, on the first floor, you can pick out some really beautiful postcards and wall art. 🖼️ Day 3️⃣ Return Journey At Marseille Provence Airport, there's a small Fragonard store. I managed to snag a scented candle from their collaboration with British illustrator Sarah Raphael Balme. 💖 #ScenicViewsOnTheRoad #CulturalExplorationDuringTravel #TravelingWithACamera #SouthernFrance #Marseille #FrenchTravel #MyOffTheBeatenPathTravelGuide #LesserKnownTravelSpots
