3 Days in Jeju: A Quick Summary
Here are my takeaways after spending 3 days on the island! 😊 1. Transportation: Taxis Are Pricey, Buses Are Tricky 🚕🚌 Taxis cost a fortune: A 5km ride is over 40 RMB, and a 12km one tops 100 ! 😶 (attractions) are spread all over the island—they’re never close to each other. Guides all recommend getting a bus card, and they’re right—you definitely need one. BUT here’s the catch: If you just miss a bus, you’ll have to wait 40-60 minutes. It’s super inconvenient! Without taking taxis, most of your time gets wasted on waiting for and riding buses. How to use one bus card for two people (no one explained this clearly!): We figured it out on Day 2. When you get on the bus, don’t swipe immediately. First, tell the driver there are two people—they’ll adjust the fare manually. Then swipe the card. Remember to swipe again when you get off! Pro tip: Press the bell before your stop—if you don’t, the bus won’t stop by default! 2. Food: Hits and Misses 🍗🍖 We didn’t eat much, mostly because getting around was such a hassle (okay, maybe I’m just lazy 😂). BHC Fried Chicken: It’s super popular, but we got some old, tough meat—it was almost choking to swallow! The cheese flavor was okay, though. One serving of fried chicken + a small side is enough for two people. A local restaurant owner gave us tips: Avoid cooked seafood, but sashimi is fine. He said most food in Jeju isn’t that good (his words, not mine! 🤐). P8’s Grilled Pig Trotters: So good—highly recommended! It’s called 바로족발보쌈 (Baro Jokbal Bossam). Note: They only serve dinner (4:00 PM - 11:30 PM). Get a small portion for two people; for three, it depends on how much you eat (it gets greasy if you overindulge). Dried Yogurt: Around 20+ RMB a box. Suggest trying one first—it’s a bit dry and choking. 3. Accommodation Tips 🏨 Recommend staying near the airport duty-free area (northern Jeju). If you’re going to Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak (eastern Jeju), spend one night near the attraction. Otherwise, the bus ride from downtown takes 2 hours—total time killer! 4. Miscellaneous Tips 📝 Some shops only accept cash. It’s safe to exchange around 2,000 RMB first. Data card: You can buy it at the airport or pre-purchase it in China—no big difference. Navigation: Download Naver Maps or Baidu Maps. Use whichever you find easier to figure out! The locals we met were all friendly. Even elderly people offered help proactively. If you’re starving, just use a translation app to ask passersby for nearby good eats—works every time! #JejuIsland #JejuFood #JejuTravelGuide
