A Chicago Italian Restaurant That’s Better Than Volare

Volare is really popular and you need to book a table in advance, but I genuinely think Nonnina is tastier than Volare! 🥖 Bread Before the Meal: They serve bread with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. The bread is soft, not hot, just so-so (can’t be picky since it’s free, but don’t eat too much, the following courses are quite substantial). 🦑 Fritto Misto: It includes fried calamari, fried shrimp, and fried zucchini? Also comes with lemon slices (tangy and great for cutting through the grease). The green sauce it’s served with is delicious 😋 🧀 Chicken Parmesan: Pasta with a strong tomato flavor + fried chicken cutlet The cutlet is tender, topped with a thick layer of mozzarella cheese that pulls as you eat it. Eating it alone might be a bit heavy, but it’s perfect with the pasta. The pasta has a rich and slightly acidic tomato flavor that balances out the greasiness of the fried cutlet. 🦞 Lobster Pasta: Cuttlefish ink pasta I highly recommend this! It contains lobster, shrimp, green bell peppers, roasted tomatoes, and arugula. So it’s a mix of seafood flavor + rich tomato + bell pepper. The tomato flavor in this dish is more of an accent, with the bell pepper flavor being more prominent, giving it a unique character. This dish is so much better than Volare’s cuttlefish ink pasta, with layers of flavor. We ordered three dishes for two people, which was a bit much, and we ended up taking some home for another meal. #100RestaurantExplorationPlan #Nonnina #ChicagoFoodExploration #ChicagoFood #ChicagoItalianRestaurant #ChicagoDateNight #ChicagoFoodie #ChicagoMustEat #TreasureRestaurantShare #WhichRestaurantDoYouPrefer
