A Taste of the Sea — Fresh Goose Barnacles

As someone who grew up by the ocean, I’ve never been able to resist good seafood. When a friend told me that Porto recently started serving fresh goose barnacles imported from Spain, I rushed over immediately — I’d never tried them before! 🦪🌊 🦶 Goose Barnacles Known in Spanish as percebes or “devil’s fingers,” these were simply boiled to preserve their natural briny flavor. They were served with a small bowl of seaweed-based dipping broth that truly elevated their umami richness. 🍲 Amuse-Bouche Complimentary from the kitchen — a warm, delicate broth made from turbot, every sip a wave of pure oceanic flavor. 🍖 Jamón Ibérico with Pan con Tomate Thin slices of Iberian ham with subtle acorn notes, paired with freshly toasted sourdough rubbed with tomato. Each bite was incredibly satisfying. 🥩 Steak Tartare A creative twist on the classic — Wagyu beef mixed with chopped oysters and anchovy dressing, blending meaty richness with a whisper of the sea. 🐟 Whole Turbot We chose the 2 lb smaller fish. After being cooked, the whole turbot was presented to us before being deboned tableside and finished with a fragrant sauce. Served with olive oil-roasted potatoes and seaweed salad, the fish was tender, flaky, and perfectly seasoned — truly a standout example of Spanish seafood excellence. I’ve been to Porto many times — tasting menu, à la carte, and Sunday family meal — and I’d highly recommend ordering à la carte for the best overall experience. If you’re here for the Michelin-star journey, though, the tasting menu fully reflects the chef’s style and vision. 📍 Note on Goose Barnacles: They’re in season now, but not always available daily. If you want to try them, be sure to call ahead and confirm! #ChicagoLife #Chicago #MichelinStar #MichelinDining #OneStar #SeafoodLover #ChicagoEats
