Admire a Tiber River Sunset in Rome
The Tiber River is Rome’s "Mother River"—the over-2,000-year-old city of Rome was built along its banks. In Rome’s well-known legend of "the She-Wolf Raising Two Boys," the abandoned twin brothers were put in a basket and tossed into the Tiber River. Later, they were raised by a she-wolf and became the original founders of Rome. Castel Sant’Angelo & Ponte Sant’Angelo Castel Sant’Angelo (Castle of the Holy Angel) stands on the banks of the Tiber River, near the Vatican. The Ponte Sant’Angelo (Bridge of Angels) in front of it spans both sides of the river—an excellent spot to enjoy the sunset on summer evenings! 👍 The 12 angel statues on the bridge were created by Bernini; each angel holds an instrument of Jesus’ crucifixion. The final scene of Puccini’s opera Tosca ("E lucevan le stelle" / "And the Stars Were Shining") was sung inside Castel Sant’Angelo, which served as a prison at that time. This is also a filming location for Roman Holiday—it’s where Princess Ann and Joe shared a kiss that sealed their love by the Tiber River! 🤗 Piazza Navona Not far from Castel Sant’Angelo is Piazza Navona. Spacious and lively, the square was originally the site of the ancient Roman Domitian’s Stadium. It retains the oval shape of the original arena and has now become a popular spot for Roman street art, coffee culture, and summer relaxation. After enjoying the sunset at Castel Sant’Angelo, it’s perfect to come here for a casual drink—it’s incredibly pleasant! 😀😀👍 Bernini’s Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi The famous Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers) in Piazza Navona is Bernini’s most outstanding public commemorative sculpture! Bernini depicted four major rivers in human history—the Danube, Ganges, Nile, and Río de la Plata—as four elderly figures, representing the entire world. The four rivers also symbolize the four continents: Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. The hidden meaning behind the work is the conquest and victory of Christianity over the world. Interestingly, on the other side of the Fountain of the Four Rivers stands a church with a facade designed by Bernini’s rival, Borromini! 🤭 This "why did one mother give birth to Zhou Yu and another to Zhuge Liang?" (a Chinese idiom referring to two equally talented rivals) story is fully portrayed in the art film Borromini and Bernini: Challenging Perfection! 👍 To be honest, Italy does an excellent job with cultural promotion—it’s really impressive and worth learning from! 👍 Since last year, I have attended the exhibition The Legendary Journey: Marco Polo’s World on the Silk Road, the 2024 Italian Art Museum-themed Film Festival, and watched the Italian women-themed film Domani ("Tomorrow"). The National Museum of China also held a Caravaggio light and shadow exhibition. I have to say—after visiting these exhibitions and watching these films, my understanding of Italy has deepened significantly! 😀👍 #Italy #Rome #TiberRiver #CastelSantAngeloNightView #FountainOfTheFourRivers #BorrominiAndBernini #TheLegendaryJourney #MarcoPoloAndTheSilkRoadExhibition #ItalianArtMuseumThemedFilmFestival #Domani
