Aji — Chicago’s New Omakase Destination 🍣📍

I recently stumbled across a newly opened sushi spot called Aji and decided to book a table. Interestingly, one of my chef friends also invited me to join — turns out one of the head chefs, Christian, is her boyfriend! 😄 👨‍🍳 Meet Chef Christian Formerly the head chef at Roka, Christian brings serious expertise in handling fish. He’s super friendly and a bit of a goofball — he insisted on asking us whether he looked better with or without glasses before starting the omakase. After we voted “with glasses,” he put them on with a serious nod and began crafting our sushi! 😎 🐟 Quality & Creativity The fish here is top‑tier, comparable to Q Sushi, but the toppings are even more playful. 🍯 Squid with Honeycomb — a touch of sweetness that elevated the delicate flavor. 🐟 Salmon with Smoked Roe — a harmonious, smoky‑briny pairing. 🥩 Wagyu Roll with Black Truffle & Caviar — I asked for it less rare, and Chef nailed a perfect medium‑rare. 🌟 The Uni Moment I mentioned how long it had been since I’d had good uni — and Chef kindly added an extra piece for me! 🧡 Not counting that bonus, we still enjoyed 16 courses, including a hand roll (tuna and shiso). Definitely left satisfied! 🍈 Dessert Golden kiwi with a mysterious sauce that somehow tasted like candied hawthorn — nostalgic and refreshing. Highly recommend Aji! It’s now my second‑favorite omakase in Chicago after Yume, and the price point is much more approachable.
