Akiro | Zero-Post Japanese Hand Rolls

😌 Akiro — let me give you the world’s first shoutout! No heavy seasoning, no style over substance — just the ingredients themselves, with light accents that let their true flavors shine. Wooden counter, warm soft lighting, vibrant Latin music in the background — you just want to sit down and happily eat rolls! 🎯 Tuna Roll — Best of the night! Minced tuna + a strip of jalapeño + a touch of sauce. One bite and your taste buds wake up instantly. 🎯 Salmon Roll — paired with their house soy sauce (a beautiful Japanese-Peruvian fusion) — absolutely incredible. 🎯 Scallop Roll — minced but super fresh, retaining the natural sweetness of scallop. Lightly seasoned and just right! 🎯 Toro Roll — forgot how I finished it… it just melted in the mouth. Scallion lifted the toro flavor even higher — fresh ingredients need no extra fuss! 🤸🏻‍♀️ Started feeling a bit rich by this point, so I asked the chef: Can I have a plain rice hand roll? He asked, Just rice? I said yes — to cleanse the palate (and also to dip in soy sauce, because their nori is so fragrant!). He made me a cute little one — adorable. 😊 🎯 Shrimp Tempura Roll — decent but not standout. Maybe I waited a few minutes, so the shrimp wasn’t as crisp, but the fresh flavor was still there. 🎯 Duck Confit Roll — cumin-spiced duck with a sweet glaze. Looks like Peking duck roll, but tastes totally different — very Peruvian, very South American, a whole new experience! After 6 rolls, I was stuffed — but couldn’t stop because it was just so good! 📌 Menu attached at the end — overall, very affordable and exceptionally high quality. I’ll definitely be back. 😌 #ChicagoEats #JapaneseHandRolls #Akiro #HiddenGem #ChicagoFoodie #FreshIngredients
