Anchorage Food Recommendations & Avoidances 🍽️✅❌
I spent two days in Anchorage and tried several highly recommended restaurants from social media. Here’s a quick review! As someone who just arrived from China and is used to Vancouver’s food scene, my standards might be a bit high — so take this as a reference! 🍛 Photo Lotus (✅ Highly Recommend) A Thai-Vietnamese restaurant so good that even their takeout is amazing! Thai Karpao (Pad Krapow): Absolutely delicious! 🌶️ Just like what I had in Thailand back in April — fragrant, not oily, and still tasty even when cooled. The sauce mixed with rice is perfection! Sadly, it wasn’t spicy enough for me, but the flavor was authentic. Pho: Average — nothing special. You can find similar quality anywhere. ⚠️ Closed on certain days (I cried when I couldn’t get it the second night 😭). You can order via Uber Eats too! 🦀 49th State Brewing Company (⚠️ Mixed Feelings) Very popular — we went around 4-5 PM, and it was already packed! By 6 PM, there was a long line. Crab Legs: Tasty and well-cooked 🦀, but not worth $130 for the portion. Costco sells twice the amount for $110! The thick parts were the best, and the warm butter sauce was nice. Jalapeno Poppers: 🌶️ As a pepper hater, I took one bite and almost gagged — but my friends finished them. The bacon and crab inside were flavorful, though! Burger: 🍔 Basic and not worth it — comparable to McDonald’s. FREE POPCORN: 🍿 THE STAR OF THE SHOW! Tasted just like Garrett Popcorn from Chicago — sweet, salty, and addictive! Our waiter kindly refilled our bowl. I regret not taking some to go! 🍦 Wild Scoops (❌ Skip If You’re Not a Sweet Lover) Overhyped marshmallow-topped ice cream. Stika Swirl & Chocolate Orange: Way too sweet for me 🍬, and it melted everywhere — messy and disappointing. Not worth the visit if you’re not into sugary treats. Very average! #AnchorageEats #FoodReview #AlaskaFoodie #ThaiFood #CrabLegs #SkipTheHype 🏔️👀
